Earlier this week, I told you how much I adore Linda Callahan as I was her guest on a Fusion Challenge – you can see that post here. Linda is also a Design Team member with Freshly Made Sketches, and today I’m playing along with her FMS sketch challenge. Like me, Linda is a super-fan of clean-and-simple, so her sketches are deliciously simple. This one just had two stripes. I filled the remaining blank space with the simple of a gorgeous image from Mediterranean Moments. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for Linda’s challenge that inspired my card:
- Mediterranean Moments. We don’t often get to know the history behind our favorite stamp sets. This stamp set, new in the 2017 Occasions Catalog, was designed with inspiration from Susan Nygaard. Not only is Susan a $1 Million Achiever, but she’s a wonderful friend of mine. Susan has a dry, intelligent sense of humor – and I love that. I was with Susan when the set was revealed to demonstrators in the new catalog – and she may have signed my catalog. 🙂 Each of these four images showcases a sweet scene from Europe. While these images are perfect for watercoloring, I decided to let the sketched scene stand alone. I don’t know that the cafe scene is in France, but I thought it would pair perfectly with “Bonjour, Beautiful” from Happy Happenings. Check out the European vignettes in this set:
- Color Combination. Blue looks good with any other color, but light blues always look so great with browns. I certainly could have chosen any colors for this sweet scene, but I love the light, airiness of Soft Sky. Early Espresso is so perfectly rich and dark and looks great with Soft Sky. I added Crumb Cake as a medium ground for these two, polar-opposite colors. The three are perfect together. If you like this combination, too, please save this:

- Just Add White. Yes! Browns and Blues look great together, but there was something missing on my card. While the Crumb Cake helped to marry the Early Espresso and Soft Sky, there was neither white nor black on the card. I added the single strand of Whisper White Baker’s Twine and tied in in a small bow. Not only did the pop of white help to balance the colors, but the placement of the bow helped to balance the images on the card. That added accent made it all work for me.
Stamp Sets: Mediterranean Moments, Happy Happenings Papers: Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Softy Sky Inks: Early Espresso Accessories: Whisper White Baker’s Twine, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the Freshly Made Sketches site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!

Brian, this amazing, stunning stamp set is on it’s way to my house, it will probably get here next week, I can’t wait.
This images are right up my alley, you know how much I love to water color and this set is just perfect for me, as soon as I saw it, I knew I was going to get it.
Love how you showcased this image, beautifully CAS, the twine bow is the perfect detail, you are right, Linda’s sketch is made to order for this beautiful and romantic stamp set.
I’m off to pin this one.
XO.
Maria.
tres jolie, Brian! I thought this set was ho-hum when I first saw it, but you have given me a new appreciation for it!
First time I’ve seen this set used, I like it! Your side “stripes” are very striking…looks GREAT!!!
Love the simplicity of this card. Just the kind I like to make….love what the team came up with, too! Thanks!
Perfect, clean and no watercoloring required (although the MM stamp set is great for watercoloring)!
Good Morning Brian, I really like this card. Love the simplicity of it. I never thought of anything to use this stamp set for, but it is so perfect here.
🙂
Great CAS card, Brian. I love the simplicity of the stamped image without any coloring. That makes it relatively quick and beautiful at the same time. Have a great day.
This image definitely needs a simple card to frame it . I know a lady named Maria that fell in love with this stamp set ! Too much coloring for me ,but your not coloring gives it impact also !
Ooh, la, la! Brian, now you are in my favourite theme! C’est magnifique, monsour! It’s magnificent, dear sir!!!
Love this set Brian and I especially love what you did with it! Such a nice change from the “cartoony” stamps that have become so popular. These stamps have a sophistication all their own for sure.
Hello Beautiful is right! So elegant…..a classic beauty for sure! Love it!
Very smart looking card. Love the simple elegance.
Love the classic look. The simple black / white is perfect.
Perfection…right down to the bow!
Love the simplicity of this card. Yes,
you do see this scene all over Paris.
❤️❤️❤️ This!
Such a great card Brian! The simplicity is very elegant! Love the neutral colours! Thanks for joining us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!
