Going Green and Seeing Red

The Paper Players are Going Green this week, and my project with a recycled item is covered in red.  I scoured my house for something to use for this fun challenge.  The finalists were a beautiful scrap of wrapping paper, a leftover piece of drawer liner and the lid from an old box.  I couldn’t decide where to start, so I scrapped them all and decided to design a fun wrap from an old notepad.  I have a handful of these notebooks in the “business supplies” area of the Fungeon leftover from World Card Making Day two years ago.  Score!  Here’s my project:

I started with a small notepad.  This one measures 5″ x 8-3/4 – a perfect size for “quick note-taking and simple to carry wherever you go.  It’s just not very pretty – until you wrap it and decorate it a bit.  🙂  Here’s how the notepad started:

I cut a piece of Pool Party cardstock to fit around the pad with a spine on the left.  I used Tear-and-Tape to glue the back of the notepad to the cardstock.  That increased its curb appeal ten-fold.

Then, I added a super-fun panel of paper from the Sending Love Designer Series Paper Stack to cover the front of the book.  Since the paper is only 6″ x 6″, I glued down two panels – one on the top and one on the bottom.  I made up for that undecorated space with a belly band for the notepad.  The belly band will ensure that all of your detailed love notes are secure from intruders.  I added “Hello Love” and a Real Red heart from the Sealed with Love stamp set and then adorned it with a cropped arrow from the  Love Notes Framelits Dies.  What fun!

  11. Love that your cover opens from the side, not the bottom as so many notebook covers I have seen. The belly band is just perfect, too. Great project!

  12. Love it! Had to giggle at the “curb appeal” it goes along with curb side recycling! The belly band is a great idea to keep it closed. Bet I will be making one (or more) of these soon!

  14. I love this notebook cover. I’ve been making them for a long time and one of the things I like to do is add a pen that has a clear bottom. Take the bottom off and put some of the cover paper in it so it all looks so chic. I never thought about the belly band so you have given me yet another lesson Brian. Your notepad cover is just fabulous.

  15. I am a notebook junkie ! Well, actually office supplies are my weakness ! Like Grace I have decorated a jillion notebooks ,but I think the next one I give as a little “sursie”(southern for surprise) I will put a cute Belly Band with a cute sentiment on it !!
