Birthday Blooms for PP328 and CTS205

In yesterday’s post, I showcased the “for you” sentiment from Stampin’ Up!’s Birthday Blooms stamp set for a 3-D gift box – if you missed that post, you can see it here.  While the stamp set was out on my desk, I decided to use the flower from the same set to make a sweet Valentine’s Day Card.  I made this card with inspiration from the Paper Players (clean-and-simple with a flower) and Cas(E) This Sketch (a great, layered layout).  The combination of Cherry Cobbler, Basic Gray and Whisper White made this card rich and regal.  Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Make it Special.  I make a lot of cards that seem plain and simple, but I like to include at least one “wow factor” on each card project – something that stands out from the rest of the card.  I love the layers that were created with inspiration from the Cas(e) this Sketch challenge, and I was happy with  the placement of the focal panel in the right corner of the card.  It’s the overlapping leaves, though, that make my heart flutter on this card.  As I was trimming down the layers to get exactly what I wanted (believe me – there are lots of little rectangles of Cherry Cobbler, Whisper White and Basic Gray on my Fungeon desk), I decided to cut right up to the leaf on the left and bottom with my trimmer and then snip around them.  That, I believe, is my “wow” on this card.Birthday Blooms, Sealed with Love, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PP328, CTS205, Valentine's Day card
  • Sealed with Love.  A sophisticated flower in a sophisticated color scheme deserves a sophisticated sentiment.  I wouldn’t expect to find a beautiful, scripted sentiment in the playful, fun Sealed with Love stamp set, but that’s exactly where I found it.  How sweet is that script?  My club members were pleasantly surprised with the set this past weekend – it’s far more versatile than you’d expect it to be.  If you have already written off this set, please challenge yourself to take another look at the great images and sentiments in this set:

  • Sophisticated Love.  Cherry Cobbler comes out in the Fall and becomes very popular at Christmas.  It gets mentally “packed away” with my Christmas set at the end of December, though.  It’s so rich and luxurious, so it felt like a perfect pick for a sophisticated Valentine’s Day card.  Once I paired it with Basic Gray and Whisper White, I was in love.  While these colors helped me present a mature look on this card, they can be very playful, too.  If you like this combination, please save this:Stampin' Up!
