This week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge gave me a gentle push to ink up the Ribbon of Courage stamp set I received at Stampin’ Up!’s OnStage event in April. Ribbon of Courage, available in Stampin’ Up!’s 2017 Annual Catalog, is Patty Bennett’s Million Dollar Achiever stamp set – and it’s bundled with a set of coordinating Framelits. This very special set honors the memory of Patty’s mother – how beautiful is that? Here’s my card:
And here’s the the sketch by Narelle Farrugia that inspired my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Ribbon of Courage. Not only does this new stamp set feature two big ribbons that can be used to honor a myriad of health and social issues, but the set includes some of the most gorgeous sentiments I’ve seen in a set (beautiful words that are written beautifully). Patty and the Stampin’ Up! designer she worked with knocked this one out of the park. What a super-special, oh-so-sweet set! The Framelits the accompany this set are unique and special, too. Is this on your wish list yet? It should be!

- A Light Application of Color. I love that we can apply inks in various intensities with Stampin’ Up! products. While I could have created solid, vibrant colors by coloring with Stampin’ Write Markers, I chose to color the bitty images with a Blender Pen. I pushed the back of a stamp pad to pool the ink in the lid and dipped my Blender Pen into the ink. The Blender Pens allowed me to monitor the amount of ink I was applying. I love these pens! Here’s a closeup of the painted ribbon:
And here’s a video from a couple of years ago that showcases three ways to use Blender Pens:
- Soft, Sweet Colors. While the card borders and stamped images in this card may look black, they are actually Basic Gray. I paired the Basic Gray with a combination of soft, sweet colors (and a couple of pops of fun). Together, they softly showcase the patterns in this ribbon. I used Soft Sky as a base and dressed it up with Blushing Bride, Daffodil Delight, Lemon Lime Twist, Wild Wasabi and Flirty Flaming. If you like this combination of colors, too, please save this:

Stamp Sets: Ribbon of Courage Papers: Soft Sky, Basic Gray, Whisper White, Thick Whisper White Inks: Archival Basic Gray, Lemon Lime Twist, Wild Wasabi, Flirty Flamingo, Blushing Bride, Daffodil Delight, Soft Sky Accessories: Blender Pen, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the Freshly Made Sketches site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!

As an oncologist I guarantee this stamp will be one of my favorites. I was breathless when I saw it at Onstage. I probably should buy two because I’m sure I’ll wear it out. I just wish I didn’t have to wait until June to order it. The first week if June is the time we celebrate cancer survivorship so there won’t be time to put it to good use. But next year..look out!
Kathy, You are amazing! I’m going to drop my set in the mail to you so that you can be prepared at the beginning of June. <3
OMG! Not in a million years did I expect that. I’ll purchase mine in June and send it to you. Thank you so much. I’m SO excited.
Love it Brian!!

Gorgeous, gorgeous card Brian and a MUST HAVE stamp set. I can’t think of a single person I know who hasn’t been affected in some way by some form of cancer be it friend, family, or themselves. It’s unfortunate but this set will certainly get a lot of use I’m sure and encouragement is so important to those affected. Thank you SU for making this amazing stamp set and thank you Brian for featuring it.
