Message in a Bottle for CAS(E) This Sketch

I’ve been itching to play with my Message in a Bottle stamp set, and this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge gave me everything I needed to dust it off (it’s not really dusty because it was new with the 2017 Annual Catalog – it just FEELS dusty with all the new Holiday products that arrived last week).  🙂  Here’s my card:

CTS233Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Flip the Sketch.  I love the simplicity of this sketch.  I changed it up just a smidge so that the layout would work with the Message in a Bottle set.  I flipped the layout on its side and then matted the sketch with a couple of layers of cardstock.  I do love a good border around my focal points.  In the end, you can see this sketch in my card, right?
  • Message in a Bottle.  How adorable is this set?!  It took a short while (OK, maybe a week) for the set to pop onto my “must have it” list.  This set is perfect for Valentine’s Day – or any time of year that you need to share a Valentine-y sentiment.  Each sentiment pairs with one of the images in a way that is so corny that it’s really sweet.  I stamped the bottle on Whisper White, added the Pool Party water and then stamped the boat in Basic Black.  I colored the sails with a Real Red Stampin’ Write Marker.  Here’s a look at this fun set:

  • Color Combination.  I love the combination of red and aqua.  Pool Party and Real Red is one of my all-time favorites.  There’s a natural clash that results from the pairing of these two – but it’s a clash that works well. The addition of Crumb Cake on this card helps to tone down the clash a bit so they all work in unison.  If you like this combination, too, please save this:  Stampin' Up! I hope you’ll pop over to the CAS(E) This Sketch site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
