Falling Flowers & Orange Blossoms for CTS246

As you know, I play along with the CAS(E) This Sketch challenge almost every week.  I love their sweet and simple layouts and enjoy the cards that pour in from the design team members and participants.  This week’s sketch offers a different approach for a sketch – there’s texture, and I love it!  I reached for three non-Autumn sets to make a sweet Autumn card.  Here’s my card:

Orange Blossom, Sheltering Tree, Falling Flowers, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, CTS246And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Three Stamp Sets.  I love the watercolored background and leaves included in Leigh’s sketch this week.  It set my mind racing to build a fun and creative way to showcase it.  I came back to three stamp sets that helped me to create my card.  The background is stamped with the “tree leaves” from Sheltering Tree (stamped in Always Artichoke and Crushed Curry) and the tiny stamp of leaves (stamped in Cajun Craze).  Here’s a look at Sheltering Tree:

The leaves and buds that pop out from the sentiment banner are from Falling Flowers – one of my favorite sets to work with when I need a good floral (cropped with the coordinating May Flowers Framelits Dies and colored with a Blender Pen.  Here’s a look at Falling Flowers:

This gorgeous sentiment is pulled from the Orange Blossom stamp set (I think it’s a perfect saying for this time of year):

  • Pop It Up.  After I glued down the three branches and buds under the Crushed Curry band, I knew I couldn’t just glue it down to the card front.  As such, I popped up the entire panel with the sentiment and the flowers.  After I attached it with Mini Dimensionals, I snipped the end of the Crushed Curry band along the side that meets the right side of the card.  Here’s a look at the messy back of this panel:Orange Blossom, Sheltering Tree, Falling Flowers, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, CTS246
  • A Regal Combination.  The combination of Always Artichoke, Cajun Craze and Crushed Curry is a CLASSIC combination for Autumn.  I softened the colors in the background by LIGHTLY stamping off the Sheltering Tree stamp (if you stamp off a photopolymer stamp too hard, you’ll lose all of your ink) and applied color to the leaves and bud with a Blender Pen.  Here’s a closeup of these leaves (with a little bit of the background included):  Create light colors with a Blender Pens and by stamping off, Stampin' Up! 7. Hi Brian:
Finally back to a life with electricity, internet and phones. Yeah. The saying you used today is my favorite and it also is found in the You Brighten My Day set but with a much different font. I think Cajun Craze and crushed curry should be married! LOL Such a beautiful combination of colors. Loved this card and your leaf placement is just so absolutely perfect. Thanks for sharing.
