I’m so inspired by the beautiful colors of Fall. The rich and warm colors of the leaves and landscape always take me right to Thanksgiving. As the weather starts to change, I (instinctively) reach for Cajun Craze and Crushed Curry to warm things up a bit.
In this year’s Holiday Catalog, Stampin’ Up! introduced us to some new and unique colors for Autumn with the must-have Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper. Here’s a look at the patterns and colors in this beautiful pack of papers:
While there are some expected Fall colors here (Early Espresso, Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry), there are some that we might not, otherwise, incorporate into our Autumn projects (Peekaboo Peach, Lemon Lime Twist, Soft Sky). They all work together beautifully, though!
I love the concept of unexpected colors for the holidays, so I’ve played around with our colors a bit. I’ve created two color charts with some suggestions for Fall color combinations – I created one for brown tones and one for gray tones. While there are some expected colors in these charts, I think you’ll also find some unexpected colors and/or combinations, as well. Can you use some of these suggestions for your Autumn-themed projects?
If you are looking for some color inspiration this Fall, here are some great combinations with some of your favorite brown tones:
There’s warmth in each of these color combinations, don’t you think? These browns really pull out the depth of these colors. Here are some great combinations with some of your favorite gray tones:
These can be a little more difficult to conceptualize, but I think each pairing offers a great combination that can work beautifully on a card on or in a project.
If you’d like to refer back to either of these charts, please print them or save them off. You can even post them to your Pinterest boards. 🙂 What do you think? Do you have a favorite?
Over the past several weeks, I’ve been collecting Holiday One-for-One Swaps. What an amazing collection of gorgeous cards! They’ll all be mailed out, and I’ll begin sharing the cards on my blog tomorrow. It’s always fun to see the reactions you give to these great cards! I’ll be rolling out all of the cards in posts over the next several weeks. How fun! I hope you’ll check-in and leave comments to let these artists know how much you love their creations.
I’m headed to Salt Lake City this week, where I’ll be enjoying the new catalog and time with friends during Stampin’ Up!’s OnStage event. Lots planned! My posts will continue while I’m gone – along with the shares from the Holiday One-for-One Swap, I’ve got some of my own projects lined up. I can’t wait to come back and share with you!
Thanks for stopping by today!
Brian

Have fun in SLC! Will see you next year in Orlando! Oh, the color inspirations are great. Thanks!
I’m sad you won’t be there, Dianne! Looking forward to Orlando. 🙂 Thanks – so glad you like the color combos. Fun!
Gorgeous color combinations. I love the modern spin of Sahara Sand, Night of Navy and Island Indigo
Thanks, Mary! I so love playing with color. Glad you like that combo – fun, huh?
The Island Indigo is the surprise color in the gray combos ! I think I might play with it as a small accent color ! LOVE AUTUMN COLORS !
Have fun ON STAGE !
They are the best, right?! Thanks, Sonny! I plan to have lots and lots of exhausting fun this week. 🙂
Love these combinations, Brian. I save them and find them a great help when trying to decide on what colors I want to use. Thanks! Have a great day!
Thanks, HJ! I always love to have a “starting point” for a card – whether it’s a sketch of a color combination, it’s nice to have something to kick off the creative juices. 🙂 Thanks for your comment!
Brian, I love your colour combo posts. I always find a surprise or 2 and I’m never disappointed. Thanks for sharing these great colors today and have tons of fun in Salt Lake City. I will for sure be seeing you in Orlando. Happy things giving my friend
Thanks, Bobbi! I love playing with these colors and am thrilled they are so well-received. Look forward to seeing you in Orlando!
Oh Brian – I can’t begin to tell you how thankful I am for you sharing your amazing color sense. I seem to be lacking in that area. One of the reasons I love it when SU puts out it’s new In Colors is they always ALL compliment each other. Each time the new in colors come out I buy them and as soon as they arrive I grab a piece of card stock and just cover it with a mix of all the colors on one card front. It always looks fabulous when I’m done and often I will then use that as a base for a group of cards. Thanks for all the helpful “charts” you share with us.
So happy to share, Grace! I love Fall , and I love the colors it brings. Cards can easily be built around great color combinations. <3
I think I would like to try the Fresh Fig in the grey combo, but I love playing with color and cannot wait until I have each and every color. As a new demonstrator, especially a senior citizen one, it does take a while to have everything at hand. Your color groupings are wonderful inspiration. While I know “my” colors, according to color analysis theory, I am often not daring enough to add other colors, even in cardmaking. Your groupings will provide great inspiration. Thank you.
Thanks so much, Nancy! I’m not versed in color analysis but like to play around with combos. Glad you like these – hope they give you lots of inspiration.
