Musical Season for CTS248

Things have been so busy over the past two weeks that I missed the last CAS(E) This Sketch challenge – except that I didn’t miss it! 🙂 Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, the last challenge runs for two weeks, so I’m squeaking in under the wire to share my card for the fun challenge. Oh, joy! This sketch is an oddly-angled banner – but I love what the design team has made, so I jumped right in to make my own. Here’s my card:Musical Season, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingAnd here’s the banner for the CAS(E) This Sketch challenge that inspired my card:

CTS248Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Musical Season. What makes your Christmas season so special? Is it the gatherings with friends and family with the baked goods and foods that only come once a year? Is it the gift giving/receiving that makes you happiest, or is the music of the season that delivers the most joy. If you (or people you love) are in the latter category, then you must take another look at the Musical Season bundle from Stampin’ Up!’s 2017 Holiday Catalog  – it’s a keeper! I used a sentiment and harp from the Musical Season stamp set and cropped the harp with the coordinating die. Here’s a look at this must-have bundle:

  • Merry Music Specialty Designer Series Paper. I’ve used this Musical Season bundle once before – and I also paired it with this sheet of Merry Music Specialty Designer Series Paper and used the same color combination of Basic Black, Pool Party and Whisper White. Here’s a look at that card (you can click on the image to see my original post):Musical Season, Snowflake Sentiments, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri121The Merry Music Specialty Designer Series Paper is gorgeous – black-and-white patterns of lightweight paper with traditional carols in various languages. The pack includes 4 each of 6 double-sided designs – SCORE! Here’s a look at the patterns in this pack of papers:Merry Music, Stampin' Up!, Brian King 144623
  • White Space (or Blue Space). White space is a cornerstone of clean-and-simple cards. The space on a card that’s left alone can be just as powerful as the space that’s filled with stamped images or patterned papers. I struggled a bit with the space above this sentiment – it’s a lot of Pool Party space – but I decided to leave it alone and am glad I did. It seems to work well enough – especially against the black panel of Merry Music Specialty Designer Series Paper. The empty space helps to pull your eye right to the sentiment, and that makes me happy.
