This week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge gave me the opportunity to pair some retiring products with some new products in an unexpected pairing that I’m excited about. There’s something very exciting when it works to pair a beautiful floral with a Halloween paper, and this paper works. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for Donna Mikasa’s sketch challenge that inspired my card:
- Petal Palette Bundle. If you’ve been coming here every day, then you already know I’m thrilled with the Petal Palette Bundle – it’s filled with gorgeous images that appear to have just been inked with a watercolor brush. My friend Jen Campbell designed this set, and I love everything about it. Here’s a look at this new bundle:
The coordinating Petals & More Framelit Dies give us great options for cutting out the images in the set but also throws in some great accents. I used framelits from this set to crop the floral arrangement at the top of the focal panel and to crop the sentiment with this beautiful frame:
- Banner Triple Punch. If you don’t already have it, the Banner Triple Punch is a great investment. What an easy way to create consistent banner tips! I punched banners on the Very Vanilla and Old Olive strips and then lined them up with one another. I first introduced you to the Banner Triple Punch in June 2015 – well, it was actually a special guest who introduced it to you. I hope you’ll pop over to that old post to see the video I shared with you that day.Β π
- Fresh Palette. Pumpkin Pie and Old Olive can go very “pumpkin” or very “carrot” when Paired together. Because the leaves and flowers are a natural combination, I hoped the colors would go to gourds and root vegetables. I tried to separate the orange and green with a bit of Very Vanilla where possible. If you like this combination of Pumpkin Pie, Very Vanilla and Old Olive, please save this:
Stamp Sets:Β Petal PaletteΒ Papers:Β Spooky Night, Old Olive, Thick Very VanillaΒ Inks:Β Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, Stampin’ Blends (Pumpkin Pie Combo Pack, Color Lifter)Β Accessories:Β Petals & More Thinlits Dies, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the CAS(E) This Sketch challenge to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Brian

How fun to watch the video your mom did with the Triple Banner Punch, again … and I had forgotten about sliding them to one side like that! Merry Christmas, Mrs. King!
I had fun re-watching it, too, Suzie! So glad you like it! She wishes you a Merry Christmas right back – and so do I. <3
This is beautiful, Brian! Wonderful take on the sketch!
Thanks so much, Leigh! The sketch was a wonderful starting point – glad you like it. <3
The perfect pattern and such a sophisticated look!
Thanks so much, Mary! I was never inspired to use this pattern during Halloween, but I’ve loved it since. π
How fun to take another look at Mary doing a video! She is just the cutest! Your take on the sketch was wonderful to see and I am continually amazed by your ability to see so much more into a paper, stamp or arrangement then it’s original intended purpose. WOW!
Thanks so much, Grace! Happy I could share this video again – the project gave me every opportunity. π Thanks for your kind words about my project – it was fun to make. This is a great stamp set!

Thanks so much, Frenchie! I don’t think of myself as someone who designs with flowers a lot, but I seem to enjoy them. So glad you like this card, my friend. Merry Christmas! <3
Halloween paper- who knew!
Tee hee! This is the second time I’ve used this paper for a floral card. I love it! Not spooky at all. π
LOVE THIS DEMONSTRATION BY MARY KING !! I Thank you for replaying it ….. oh, and I like your card !!
What fun !!
It’s fun, isn’t it? She did a great job! π Oh! Glad you like my card, Sonny!
Love your take on the sketch with this new bundle! And fun to re-watch the famous Mary King in action! When is her next guest-star segment planned for?
Thanks, Cindie! I really love this new bundle and will likely be using it lots more. You’ll be seeing more of Mom soon, too!
Gorgeous card, Brian! I had no idea it was Halloween dsp!!
Thanks, Michelle! I how Stampin’ Up! incorporates color-coordinated patterns with the themed pages in its papers. Makes them so versatile.
Love, love, love this. Great color palette and awesome execution of the challenge. Great job Brian.
Thanks so much, Robbye! Your comments are always so sweet!
Of course I rewatched your moms video, I love how supportive she is. Itβs funny how we need reminding of tips every now and then, pulling the tag to the side slipped my mind. AND, we all have excess holiday DSP, great tip in checking to see if it coordinates with non-theme occasions.
Thanks Brian
Thanks so much, Katrina! So glad you like the tips and mom’s video. It was fun to share again. π
Looks so retro with the colors and the DSP! Adorable!
Thanks, Windy! I’ve had a lot of fun with this paper – glad you like the card. <3
