You are going to want to keep reading ALL THE WAY to the end of today’s post. I promise you’ll be glad you did! How often do you get to offer happy wishes to someone you love on their 100th birthday?! It doesn’t happen a lot. When Ms. Turner, an active member of Mom’s church, celebrated her 100th birthday, Mom asked for a special card for this special lady.
Mom asked me to make a special card for Mom could give Ms. Turner on her 100th birthday. What a special gesture! I chatted with Mom several times about it in the months before the monumental birthday. That request shifted to a need for individual cards from each of Mom’s closest friends and then, maybe, from the group of them. When I (somewhat sarcastically) suggested that I could just make a card for the whole congregation to sign, Mom jumped on that idea. I was stuck, but I loved the challenge – and it felt a bit more special.
At a Rocket City Stampers retreat in March, the hosts showed us how to make an Explosion Card which combines three panels from the Envelope Punch Board to create a huge card that unfolds multiple times. This was the perfect card for Mom’s church to give Ms. Turner since they could all sign on multiple panels of the card.
Here’s how I built this multi-fold card:
Here are the steps with a little bit more instruction for each part.
I used 12″ x 12″ Kraft cardstock (retired) to build the base for the Explosion Card. The center panel gives a 6″ x 8-1/2″ panel (the largest panel on the Envelope Punch Board) with an 11-1/2″ x 11-1/2″ piece of cardstock. I believe the other two panels are 6″ x 4-1/2″ but I could have created three 6″ x 8-1/2″ panels if I wanted. As long as the height is the same on each panel (and as long as the card will fold), any size will work.
Based on the size of each panel, I cropped cardstock that Mom could glue into each panel of the card after folks had signed it. I can’t imagine the shape the card would be in if it were passed around to lots of people who had to unfold and fold it back over and over. There are three panels on the inside of the card and two panels on the outside.
I decorated the front of Ms. Turner’s card with this gorgeous Calypso Coral and Silver Foil patterns from the Sweet Soirée Specialty Designer Series Paper. The panel looks like a tasteful amount of confetti in celebration of her big party. I added three numbers with Silver Foil and the Large Numbers Framelits Dies – how many people can say they get THREE NUMBERS on their birthday card?!
The card, once folded, is wrapped with Silver 3/8″ Metallic-Edge Ribbon. While the Large Numbers Framelits Dies and Sweet Soirée Specialty Designer Series Paper retire at the end of May (or when supplies run out), the Silver 3/8″ Metallic-Edge Ribbon will continue into Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Annual Catalog.
Here are the products I used to make this card:
I promised you a wonderful payoff if you make it all the way to the end of this post – and now it’s time to deliver.
Here’s a super-sweet photo of Ms Turner, holding the card I made for her (and shared with you today) to celebrate her 100th Birthday.
How beautiful is she!? I’m so happy I could play a small part in her birthday celebration.
Thanks for stopping by today!

You are the complete embodiment of that concept, Brian. What a fabulous card and acknowledgement of a monumental milestone. I’m so moved by your creativity and thoughtfulness. Brilliant job done, sir!
That’s so very sweet of you to say, Linda! Thank you so much. I’m happy that I can share and contribute. <3
Worked out great! Your post was very touching and you could tell she loved it.
Thanks, Rick! When you first showed me that, I thought, “There is no chance I’d ever need a card like that!” but made it anyway. So happy to have been introduced to it so I could make this one for this special occasions. <3
I know I thought the same thing when I did it. But, when I shared it with the others they were like yes we have to do it.
What an awesome idea Brian, for an awesome occasion!!! Thank you for sharing. <3
Happy to share, Dawn! Thanks. <3
Brian, you are such an awesome son. You created that beautiful card to celebrate the birth of such a sweet woman. God bless you. The card is fab and so is the picture of her with it.
Thanks so much. I wish I could have been there with Mom to celebrate with Ms. Turner, but she gave me a recap. Sounds like a wonderful event for a wonderful lady.
What an awesome occasion! My mom, Mrs Turner, just turned 91 last month. I wish I could understand this card… do you have a video? I can’t understand how it closes…. I may be dense but a video would help see how it opens and closes.
Happy birthday to your mom, Connie! The card is comprised of three envelopes from the Envelope Punch Board. Each of the outside envelopes is glued to the middle envelope at the flap. Each envelope folds up, and then they all fold together. If you play around with it, I’m sure you’ll be able to figure it out.
Good job Brian….awesome card I know she treasures!
Thanks, Kathy! <3
You are such a blessing in many peoples life’s….thank you for always sharing….
Awww…thanks so much, Kathy! I’m happy to share. <3
The photo of Ms. Turner holding her card is priceless. Love the concept!
Isn’t it the sweetest?! Thanks, Mary!

I agree – she looks amazing! Thanks so much, Linda! Glad you like it. <3
This is such a wonderful card.
Thanks so much, Mary! It was fun to make – quite an experience playing around with the panels until I got it right.
What a very good idea for a card for group signing!
Beautiful card for a beautiful lady!
Thanks, Candy! Isn’t she just lovely!?
Awesome card and so special that you could help your mom make this day so special for the birthday lady. I still cannot believe stampin up has retired the number framelit dies. So glad I has this set. They are just perfect. Easy to use and the “right” size. I made a magnetic picture frame to store mine above my big shot.
Thanks, Leigh! Mom said it was a wonderful party. <3 I'm holding on to my Large Numbers Dies. 🙂
Wow! What a perfect design for a beautiful card that will have multi-signers. Mrs. Turner looks amazing to be 100. Love her picture. You were so sweet to make this beautiful card that she will treasure. Isn’t it funny how a design comes to you at the right time? I could see this design having quotes or flowers, etc. on each panel to make it a wonderful card for a get well, thinking of you, baby or birthday card. Great job, Brian. Enjoy your day!
Thanks so much, HJ! It really did come to me at the right time. This type of card would be gorgeous with lots of sentiments or images inside – I left it blank for all the signatures. I’m so glad you like the card, HJ! Thanks for your sweet comments. <3
What an awesome event to be such a big part of! She has a smile that will light a room up! You are so blessed to be part of this celebration!
I’m so happy I could play a part in this party. Thanks so much, Rachael. <3
Hey beautiful card Brian. Just what I needed as I need to make a birthday card for my Aunty Margaret who will be 100 on the 5th of June. So I might just case this for the family to sign.
TFS
Happy birthday to your aunt! Such an amazing milestone! <3

Right?! Thanks so much, Traci! <3
All I have to say Brian is you rock! You make everyone feel special! Love you!
Thanks so much, Windy! I love you, too! <3
I love the large numbers dies. My grandmother turned 109 last October, so I’ve used them every year for her birthday. Tried to post a photo of her in this post but couldn’t easily do it . She looks great too. I love the big card to sign. Don’t need it often but wish I had had it last year for her. Thanks Brian.
Wow, Christina! 109?! That’s amazing! My family doesn’t have genes like that! I’d love for you to email me a picture. <3
WOW! 100 years old and still active in her church. It’s wonderful to hear these beautiful good news stories. I’d love to hear her talk about how life has changed in the past 100 years. She looks beautiful and smart. I bet she even know how to text! How special that you had the privilege of designing such a beautiful card for such a beautiful lady. Thank you Brian for making this special day so memorable for her.
Thanks, Grace! That was my first thought, too! So much has changed in my short life, so I can’t imagine all of the changes that she has experienced. I’m so glad you like the card and agree that she’s beautiful!
I don’t often comment even though I read your email daily. How wonderful you are at sharing what you love! Thank you for sharing the technique for a card that requires a ton of signatures.
Thanks so much for your comment, Katherine! So happy to hear from you. I’m more than happy to share and am glad this fold is helpful.
That card is beautiful and just so perfect for a group signing. For a 100 birthday you need oversized anyway! You rocked it!
🙂 Thanks, Jackie! I’m so glad we went to the retreat so I could learn about this type of fold.
Love this thanks for the great directions.
