Oh, I love when the Global Design Project hosts a CASE the Designer Challenge. It gives me the opportunity to make a project inspired by a project from another design team member – both a lot of fun and an honor. This week’s projects are inspired by a beautiful card by Janneke de Jong, my talented friend from the Netherlands. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for this week’s CASE Janneke challenge that inspired my card – the challenge goes live at 7am EST:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- CASE (verb) \หkฤs\. When we CASE (Copy and Share Everything or Copy and Selectively Edit), we find inspiration in a project – theme, color combinations, layout, products used – and create our own project by making changes to make it our own.ย When CASEing, it’s important to give credit to the original designer – it doesn’t take away from your project at all. While Janneke’s sweet card is starkly different from my silly-sweet Halloween card, there are quite a few similarities. Let me draw a couple of comparisons for you:
- Like the inspiration card, my card features a focal point on an oval.
- Like the inspiration card, my card showcases a lot of purple. Was the color scheme an obvious similarity?
- Like the inspiration card, my card is layered with simple components.
- Sneak Peeks of Treats and Tweets. My card features two new Halloween stamp sets from Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Holiday Catalog – Takeout Treats (which is part of a bundle that makes adorable takeout containers) and Trick or Tweet (a sweet assembly of animals in costumes). The sentiment is from Takeout Treats – here’s a look at this bundle:
Trick or Tweet is perfect for the sweeter side of Halloween – nothing at all spooky about these adorable animals in decidedly un-spooky costumes. Here’s a look at Trick or Tweet:
- Build-an-Elephant. From the moment I saw these two stamp sets in Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Holiday Catalog, I wanted that costumed elephant to sit upon this blocked sentiment. It wasn’t until after I had stamped and colored my rotund mammal that I remembered I wanted the pumpkin treat container in his trunk. I was too afraid to stamp directly on the colored elephant, so I stamped on scrap paper and cropped it out. Here’s a closer view:
I stamped the elephant’s trunk on scrap paper and stamped the pumpkin handle over it (lining it up with my Stamp-a-Ma-Jig). I colored the trunk and pumpkin and snipped it out. That gave me to trunk overlap I needed. Trick – or treat? ๐
Stamp Sets: Trick or Tweet, Takeout Treatsย Papers: Nature’s Poem Designer Series Paper, Rich Razzleberry, Smoky Slate, Thick Whisper Whiteย Inks: Rich Razzleberry, Tuxedo Black Memento, Stampin’ Blends (Smoky Slate Combo, Rich Razzleberry Combo, Light Pumpkin Pie)ย Accessories: Layering Ovals Framelits, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the Global Design Project site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!

Crazy fun! Adore the coloring and how sweet your little guy looks dressed for Halloween. Perfect DSP for the background, too!
Thanks so much, Mary! I had fun with this little guy – glad you like it.
Love that purple! Fun card!
I knew you would. I suspect you can easily play along with this week’s challenge. <3
Love this trick or treater! Such a cute card…..just ordered this set for Emma!
๐ Thanks, Linda! There are loads of cute images – I know Emma will love it. <3
Oh this card is so cute. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much, Sharon! I’m so glad you like it. <3
This card is too cute. TFS
I can’t take too much credit for that, Barbara. ๐ Thanks! <3
What a totally cute, fun card, Brian. Love the purple and the elephant dressed for Halloween. So much fun! Enjoy your day!
Yay! Thanks, Hilda! I had fun with this challenge and this adorable elephant. Glad you like it.
I have been waiting to see this stamp set in action. Itโs adorable!
Thanks so much, Liz! I’ll be playing with it more in the months to come. <3
I love everything about this card, without any selective editing ?.
Especially, the Beautiful deep colors!
๐ Thanks so much, Katrina! It’s simple but fun. I’m thrilled that you like it as is. <3
Love your little elephant and what a great idea on how to add on the pumpkin! I have been through my holiday catalog at least 4 times now and have never noticed that cute little guy!
I’m so glad you like it, Beth Ann. Thanks so much for your sweet comments – happy to point him out to you. <3
Well if that isn’t THE cutest dang elephant I’ve ever seen! I kind of skipped over this set when looking through the Holiday Catalog but I think I better go back and look again. Any stamp that makes me smile this much has to go on my wish list. Love today’s card Brian and, since purple is one of my favorite colors that just makes it even better!
I’m so glad you like it, Grace! This is a cutesy stamp set (which I often look over) but loved the elephant so much. The sentiments are also super-cute.
Happy Monday Brian! Now that’s one cute card…love the color combo!
๐ Thanks so much, Dawn! I’m in love with this elephant – glad you like him too. <3
Love this guy. Such a great card Brian. I would definitely give him a treat if he came to my door!!!
Ha! Thanks, Connie! I think he’s so cute – glad you like him, too. I haven’t had a trick-or-treater in years, so I’d be SHOCKED if he stopped by. ๐
Color me happy! I saw this set in the catalog and said this is totally a me type of set! Fun critters and puns! My set will be here this week. I was going to fussy cut the pumpkin and use a bit of twine or and have it hanging from his trunk. Probably popping the whole elephant on dimensionals too so I could slip the pumpkin onto his trunk. But, I had not thought about the Trick or Treat and have been debating whether I need the tiny treat box. Oh man, such an enabler. There is a bat and a spider web in the Seasonal Chums die set and I was trying to add those too. Ummm….more options now. Love your coloring. Maybe have him sitting in some grass instead. Then there are the other critters to play with! I am sending a boat load of these to children’s hospitals!
I’m so glad you see so many great possibilities with these sets, Chris! You have a very creative mind – thanks for your comments. <3
Aww!! Brian, how adorable is this little elephant? He is so “Scary” haha!!! The colors are divine, the Rich Razzelberry has always been one of my favorite purples from Stampin’ Up!, I don’t recall if they brought back or if they kept it in the catalog, but whatever the reason, I’m so happy it’s still around.
Perfect layers as always, totally sweet image.
Thank you for sharing.
XO
It’s been a “like” of mine for a long time, but I’m really starting to “love” it. They moved it to the Regals this year – it feels so comfortable there. Thanks, Maria! <3
The. Cutest. Elephant. EVER!
๐ Thanks so much, Dianne! I think he’s pretty wonderful. <3
Who doesn’t love an elephant? And he’s dressed up! I love that stamp. Very cute card.
I know! How cute is he in his little mask and winks? So glad you like it, Melanie! <3
Ooooooh, my friend, I love it , that guy made me giggle, heโs so cute , nice job my friend, thatโs my next set , my granddaughter wants it for treats for her friends, so Iโll get it , Tfs ,
Hugs Frenchie โฅ๏ธ
It’s a cute set, right? Thanks so much for your comments, Frenchie! I’m glad you like it. <3 Can't wait to see you in November. <3
Super cute Brian. Miss Ellie Phant might want to try a different costume because sheโs easily recognizable in that one. I love the colors you used.
Ha! Thanks so much, Robbye! I’m so glad you like it. <3
I’m not usually a cutesy stamper either, but your “little” elephant is adorable. May have to reconsider this stamp set. TFS
I just think his costume is hysterical! ๐ Thanks, Sheila! <3
I love how your mind works Brian. Only you would see a Zorro-like elephant in a delicate floral sketch! It’s so very Brian..
Ha! Thanks, Arlene! Funny thing – as soon as I saw the purple card Janneke used on her project, I knew I’d be showcasing this sweet elephant. My mind is a minefield. ๐
I’m totally with you. Would have been scared to stamp the pumpkin directly on the elephant, especially after coloring. Great job! You have a great eye for combining stamp sets. Super cute!
๐ Thanks, Sheryl! I appreciate your feedback – I study these stamps to find the exact things I want. Glad you like it. <3
