Love & Thanks for GDP154

I love a good sketch challenge – what a great opportunity to create where one of the main elements is already decided for you? This week’s sketch challenge for Global Design Project 154 is a simple layout with lots of great elements. I started building my card with select patterns and colors from Nature’s Poem Designer Series Paper. The stamp sets and images just fell into place for me. Here’s my card:

GDP154Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Rooted in Nature and Nature’s Poem. I love the Rooted in Nature Bundle that debuted in Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Annual Catalog in June. In some circles, it’s been called “Lovely as a Tree with coordinating dies” – but it’s more than that. Not only does this bundle feature some great images of trees and leaves, but it has some amazing sentiments (something that Lovely as a Tree does not). I love the oversized “you are wonderful” and “thinking of you” as much as the brilliant collection of smaller sentiments – be sure to pay attention to all of them before you pass on this bundle. Still, it’s the gorgeous oak, firs and other fauna that make this set so special. Here’s a look at Rooted in Nature: Rooted in Nature Bundle, Stampin' Up!, 148353The set pairs so beautifully with Nature’s Poem Designer Series Paper, so that was a no-brainer when looking for images to complement this paper. • Three Pearls, Two Words and One Tree. How gorgeous is this grand oak tree from the Rooted in Nature stamp set? I stamped it with Soft Suede on Thick Whisper White and cropped it with the Nature’s Roots Framelits Dies. Just gorgeous! I added thin white borders around the layers on my card to accentuate the white border around my tree. Here’s a closer look: Rooted in Nature, Tropical Chic, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP154I accented the oak panel with “love & thanks” (I masked off the “with much” the precedes the sentiment in the Tropical Chic stamp set” for a straight-to-the-point sentiment. I also added three pearls that I colored with the Dark Soft Suede Stampin’ Blends Marker – because the markers are alcohol-based, they color the pearls beautifully.
  • Color Trio for Fall. These three panels of cardstock were pulled from the Nature’s Poem Designer Series Paper – pulling from the same pack makes it so easy to color-coordinate it all. Here’s a look a the colors and patterns in Nature’s Poem Designer Series Paper: Nature's Poem Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, 146338Aren’t these colors perfect for Fall? If you like this combination of Grapefruit Grove, Cajun Craze and Soft Suede (a combination I might never have tried without this paper), please save this:Stampin' Up! 1. Brian, this is yet another winning color combination using one of the most beautiful bundles ever!!! What a gorgeous card!!
Love the sketch and you used it masterfully.
Thank you so much for sharing.
    Maria.

    • Thanks so much, my friend! I loved the sketch we were given as a starting point – the colors were right from this gorgeous paper. Glad you like my project. <3

  2. Gorgeous with the softly textured patterns. Love your trio of Soft Suede Pearls!

  3. Love this color combo where the Grapefruit Grove and Cajun Craze really make the beautiful tree pop. Great take on the sketch. Have a wonderful day!

  4. Rooted in Nature was the first set I bought from the new catalog and I am still ga ga over it! I never thought SU would come up with a set that would rival my favorite Lovely As A Tree set and they haven’t. Instead they came up with a stamp set to compliment it. These are both amazing sets that have NO competitors in the stamping world. Your card for today is amazing and I love that it leans toward the masculine which I am always looking for.

  5. Great layers for the sketch ..Love the texture you created with mix of DSP and colors!

  6. Love the look of texture. The color combination is wonderful – I have been hesitating to use the grapefruit grove as just not sure about it. Well, time for it to come out of the box and continue thinking outside the box with some wonderful fall cards. I love your color combination.

  7. Love this sketch, love your take on the sketch. Think I’ll get in under the wire to add my card to GDP this week!
