Sharing Love with Stampin’ Up!’s Hey Love Stamp Set

I hope your Christmas was wonderful. We had a wonderful, quiet day here in Atlanta and enjoyed a couple of meals with family. I was happy to spend a little time in my Fungeon (that’s my name for my craft room) – now that Christmas has come (and gone by the time this post goes live), I’m working on Valentine’s Day cards. Yay! Here’s my card:

Hey Love, Beauty Abounds, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, Valentine's Day cardHow cute is he?! Do you see the connection behind the big ape and the “one big thing” sentiment? You saw it – I guess there was no reason for me to point it out. Sorry for wasting your time. Here’s how this sentiment resolves on the inside of this card…

Hey Love, Beauty Abounds, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, Valentine's Day cardTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Hey Love & Beauty Abounds. My card combines a cute image from a cute Valentine’s Day stamp set with a sentiment from a gorgeous, all-purpose stamp set. I love a whimsical animal set for Valentine’s Day – while these might be designed to give to children, they’re perfectly fun for adults, too! Here’s a look at the images and sentiments in the Hey Love stamp set:Hey Love, Stampin' Up! 148644While the adorable ape coordinates with the “I’m ape over you” sentiment in the set, I chose to go with a sweeter sentiment that’s more loosely tied the gentle giant. I chose my sentiment from the gorgeous Beauty Abounds stamp set – here’s a look at this new bundle:Beauty Abounds Bundle, Stampin' Up! 150617
  • I’m Ape for this Ape. I stamped this ape with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Thick Whisper White cardstock. After that ink dried, I colored him with Light and Dark Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends Markers. I didn’t do much “blending,” but that’s A-OK. The alcohol markers allowed me to get a smooth, streak-free coverage.Hey Love, Beauty Abounds, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, Valentine's Day cardI colored the heart with a Dark Poppy Parade Stampin’ Blends Marker and then cropped the sweet guy with a Layering Squares Framelits Die. Easy as can be! I love working with these Stampin’ Blends – need to find more reasons to use them.
  • Color Combination. Smoky Slate and Poppy Parade were easy choices in this color combination – they were pulled right from the ape. Want to know why I added all of this to the Balmy Blue base on this card? Simple answer – I haven’t used Balmy Blue very much, so I auditioned it and was happy with how it played with these colors. 1. The mark of genius! I was certain this stamp set wasn’t for me and you rocked it with these colors, darling gorilla and perfect sentiment.

  2. So adorable…love the layout and sentiments with this image!

  3. The big gorilla is perfect for the sweet sentiment! I always enjoy seeing cards where you have pulled from more than one set to make them. Love this color combo and have saved it. Enjoy your day!

  4. I’m ape over this card. Just bananas over all the layers and colors. Of course this set of animals spoke to me but when you added the other set it was just so perfect. Why monkey around with trying to blend on smaller images when some quick swipes of color does the trick. The balmy blue is a swinging color for our big friend. Yep, I am ape over this card.

    • Oh, Chris! You are more fun than a barrel of…I worry that you might one day hurt yourself with all the creative puns. Please promise me you’ll be safe with them. Thanks for your fun comments! So glad you like my card. ♥

  5. Such a fun card today! Love the sentiment selection. Great for this character. Great colors too! A winner in my book!

    • Thanks so much, Sharon! Both of these seem designed for very different types of projects, but I was happy when I could put them together like this. So glad you like it. ♥

  6. I do love a cute ape and your card highlights one of the cutest! Funny about Balmy Blue, I used it today as well. And, for the same reason! Great color that I’ve too long neglected.

  8. I fell in love with both of these stamp sets and the Butterfly Beauty Thinlits Dies! So much fun is to be had with all three products! What better way to say “I Love You!”.

  9. Well, I will join this group by saying that I’m also totally ape for this fabulous card, not only the image of the Gorilla is simply adorable, your perfect layers, design and color combination makes it a total winner Brian.
I also love it when you combine stamp sets to create your cards, the sentiments on this one fit just perfectly.
    Thank you for sharing.
