♥ Love is in the Air ♥

I set out to make a cute, Valentine’s Day-themed card last week using the sweet hot air balloons from the Lift Me Up stamp set. After playing around with elements on my card, my balloon-themed card turned into a sweet bunny-themed card (you can see that card here)- and the balloons were set aside. I picked them back up to make this fun card for two of this week’s online challenges. Here’s my card:

Here’s the banner for this week’s Retro CAS(E) This Sketch challenge that inspired my card:

I’m also sharing this card for this week’s Paper Players theme challenge – love is in the air:

  • Lift Me Up. Even with all the wonderful, new products in Stampin’ Up!’s 2019 Occasions Catalog, my card features some of my favorites from the Annual Catalog. I love these sweet balloons and the scene we can create with a couple of the fun clouds. Here’s a look at this must-have stamp set:Lift Me Up, Stampin' Up!, 142896The stamp set was initially offered as a bundle (the bundled offering expired when the set carried over into a new publication). Still, the dies that accompany this set are amazing and should be part of your current stash:Up & Away Thinlits Dies, Stampin' Up! 142748
  • Love is in the Air. The sentiment on my card is pulled right from the Lift Me Up stamp set – a perfectly coordinated sentiment. I stamped the sentiment in Poppy Parade on Thick Whisper White cardstock and cropped it with one of the Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies. I snipped a bit off the right side of the band so it would align with the Pool Party band.Lift Me Up, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingI love the Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies, introduced in Stampin’ Up!’s 2019 Occasions Catalog. If you haven’t checked these out, please do. Here’s a look:Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies, Stampin' Up!, 148551
  • Color Combination. What do you think about the colors in this card?! While the Pool Party panels play important roles in the makeup of this card, the three balloons really set the tone for the bright, cheery feel of this card. 1. Love is definitely in the air and your sweet little air balloons are carrying a load of it for sure. Love the layers and how you “grounded” your balloons with the strip of card stock with that beautiful DSP in the background, I think otherwise they might have been lost among the polka dots.
Beautiful color combination too, thank you for sharing.
    XO

  2. Up, up and away the cutest trio of balloons! Love how you framed the sentiment with the stitched rectangle . . . can’t get enough of those guys!

  3. Funny that you featured the three bolder colors (Rich Razzeberry, Poppy Parade, and Pacific Point). I love them and they were perfect for the balloons. But it was the Pool Party that first caught my eyes. I thought about how great that it goes with just about everything. How smart of you to know that!

  4. You can always mix the colors-even these three- perfectly as if they were always meant to be! Awesome love card!

  5. Brian, such an uplifting, smile inducing card!

  6. I love how you can always find the perfect color combo and elements from different stamp sets to make a great card. Dianne K is right about how Pool Party does seem to go with everything. It is one of my go-to colors. Have a wonderful day!

    • Thanks so much, Hilda! Sometimes I hem and haw to find the right mix of stamps – and sometimes it just happens. Thanks for all of your wonderful comments, Hilda! ♥

  7. Your card for today is so much cuter then anything I’ve seen at Hallmark this year. I love the dimension you gave the balloons and the clouds look so soft and fluffy. This is a perfect card for any age. Because I make holiday cards for friends of all ages plus my little great, great nieces and nephews it’s rare I see a card design that would be suitable for all of them but this one sure is. Thanks Brian for sharing. I love this simple sketch.

    • Awww…thanks so much, Grace! I’m so happy you like the card (and that I’m giving Hallmark a run for its money). 🙂 Thanks so much for your consistently kind comments!

  8. Oh, this card is great. It makes a wonderful masculine valentine card. Thx for the ingenious idea!

  9. Your card is very attractive and as others have said extremely versatile.
I find it inspiring, since I struggle to bring that much color together successfully! You nailed it!

  10. Sweet card, Brian! I have been trying to give my older stamps some love too…they still have lots of creative love in them, right?! Perfect for our theme challenge too! We’re thrilled you shared this with us at the Paper Players this week!

    • Thanks so much, LeAnne! There are some real gems in the older sets – yet the newer sets are so fun to play with. Glad you like the card and appreciate the inspiration. ♥
