Today’s card is way more vintage than I am accustomed to, but I really wanted to use some favorite retiring stamps before they go. And it’s still a crisp, beautiful card. As luck would have it, I won a new stamp set from Stampin’ Up!’s 2019 Annual Catalog (at OnStage early in April) that had a perfect sentiment to pair with the vintage background I created. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:
- Woven Heirloom and Beautiful Textures. My card today features a beautiful sentiment from a stamp set that debuts in Stampin’ Up!’s 2019 Annual Catalog. Women Heirlooms offers some beautifully scripted words and some gorgeous textures for a distressed look. Here’s a look at this new stamp set:Just look how beautiful this sentiment is on the front of the card, cropped with an oval Stitched Shapes Die:
- Gorgeous Texture. The beautifully scripted sentiment deserved to be showcased with a beautiful, textured backdrop. I built the base of this card with textured images from two retiring stamp sets and a sweet trio of colors. Here’s a closer look at Touches of Texture and Timeless Textures stamp sets:I used the paint splatter and tiny flower from Touches of Texture and the flourish image from Timeless Texture to build my backdrop. I stamped these images twice on a piece of scrap paper before stamping them here for a lighter look:Both of these stamp sets will be retiring on June 2 (or when they are sold out). Stamp sets are guaranteed to be available through May 24 – but that’s it! If you’d like to review all of the information around the Retiring List, click on the picture below:
- Mature Color Combination. In my mind, colors have maturity levels – Cherry Cobbler and Night of Navy are way more mature and sophisticated than Melon Mambo and Pacific Point. These are just scientific facts that can’t be debated. In my search for sophisticated colors for this card, I arrived at a mature combination of three very different tones. If you like this combination of Mint Macaron, Gray Granite and Merry Merlot, please save this:
Stamp Sets: Woven Heirlooms, Timeless Textures, Touches of Texture Papers: Gray Granite, Merry Merlot, Mint Macaron, Whisper White Inks: Gray Granite, Merry Merlot, Mint Macaron, Basic Black Accessories: Stitched Shapes Dies, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the CAS(E) This Sketch site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Brian

Thanks so much, Hilda! I always appreciate your kind feedback. ♥
Really beautiful card…love the details in the corners!
Thanks so much, Windy! There was more there, but I trimmed them down a bit to reduce the size of the corner details.
GORGEOUS!!! And I love the new sentiment! Beautiful job on this card, Brian!
Thanks so much, Dawn! The new set is gorgeous – I knew I wanted to pair it with these textured beauties before they retire. ♥
Now that is one ‘crisp and beautiful’ looking card my friend. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much, Kadie! I’m so glad you like it – I’m happy with how it turned out.
Vintage style but still a very clean design. Really beautiful, BK!
Thanks so much, Mary! I tried to go “very vintage” but my “CAS” style kept poking its head in to say, “hi!”. ♥
This card and color combinations are gorgeous! I’m a sucker for a feminine card and bonus points when it appears vintage. You are the best.
How can I be the best when you are the best, Melanie?! Thanks so much – so glad you like it! ♥
I like how you paired the new with the old to create a beautiful card! Nice, “mature” color combo too! Thanks for sharing!
🙂 Thanks so much, Tracy! I really felt out of my comfort zone on this one, but it still looks like one of my cards. 🙂
That sentiment is everything I would want to express in a sympathy card. I love the font. You did a great job with this one Brian and it truly does express “heartfelt” sympathy in both design and color.
Thanks so much, Grace! I, too, love this sentiment. It’s so beautifully stated and written.
So beautiful! This is on my list!
Thanks so much, Pam! It’s a beautiful set.
Such a beautiful card…I just love it.
Thanks, Sandra! I’m so glad you like it! ♥
I love the vintage style of this card. The background looks really cool with the colors you chose and the sentiment was made for this card!! GREAT take on the sketch.
Thanks so much, Nora! I TRIED to make it vintage, but my clean-and-simple style still poked through a bit. 🙂 Thanks!
Oh my word!! Brian, this card is gorgeous!!! As always, your color combinations are spot on for the theme of your cards and this one is so beautiful.
The sentiment’s font is so elegant and the words heart felt, a sweet card that will surely bring comfort to the recipient.
I most definitely, can spot a card made by you anywhere.
Thank you for sharing.
Hugs.
Thank you so much, Maria! ♥ I enjoyed this sketch – really took me to a different place with these stamps. So glad you like it.
What beautiful card! I love this yummy color combination.
Thanks so much, Dianne! I appreciate it! ♥
Fabulous design and perfect color choices. This new Woven Heirlooms is a keeper of a stamp set, too, which you proved big time. Thanks for ANOTHER inspiring project. Like Maria R said, we can spot a BK card anywhere. You are the iconic master.
Awwww…thanks so much, Linda! ♥
Beautiful card! The Woven Heirlooms is one of my favorites in the new catalog! Thank you for the inspiration!
So happy to share! I’m not sure I would have selected it from the lineup of newbies, but I enjoyed playing with it. ♥ Thanks, Susan!
Great card Brian. The softness of the corner stamping ties in with the sentiment perfectly.
Thank You for the card, Brian! I love it!! Thanks for putting the stamp set up with it. So SAD that those sets are retiring. I need a sympathy card and will probably CASE this.
