Welcome Baby with Buttons

When I saw that this week’s sketch for CAS(E) This Sketch featured buttons, I couldn’t help but to take the challenge literally by adding buttons to my card. I know, I know – the buttons on the sketch are a guide to help us create something fun. I have a new set of dies with buttons, though, so onto my card they went! Here’s my card, a sweet way to congratulate someone who’s welcoming a new baby:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

  • Dies from Two New Bundles. My simple card features dies from two new bundles – and you’re going to want these. While It Starts with Art and the coordinating Arts & Crafts Dies are not specifically designed for a baby card, these sweet buttons translate beautifully when the right colors are chosen. I had fun cutting these buttons and arranging them on the card. Here’s a look at the It Starts with Art Bundle:It Starts with Art Bundle, Stampin' Up!, 151090My sentiment and buttons are glued to one of the Stitched Nested Labels Dies, part of the must-have Free as a Bird Bundle. These dies are super-versatile with a great shape and wonderful texture. Here’s a look at the Free as a Bird Bundle:Free as a Bird Bundle, Stampin' Up! 151123
  • Pillowy Softness. As I was reaching for my trusty friend, the Subtle Embossing Folder, to add a textured backdrop for my card, I gave some of my other embossing folders another look. That’s when I realized the Tufted 3D Embossing Folder would be a perfect foundation for this sentiment and these baby buttons. Such softness in this folder! • Thanks so much, Dianne! I was struggling with how to use these dies, but these buttons helped me to crank out a quick-and-fun card. Glad you like it. ♥

  2. Perfect for the sketch and with the Quilt emboss folder!

  3. What a perfect idea to use these colorful little die cut buttons! I especially like the Tufted embossing to bring it all together!

    • Thanks, Mary! I have always thought of the Tufted folder as “formal” but I was happy with the soft texture it added to this card. Thanks!

Such a great way to use these adorable buttons. Love this card. Easy to mail too as these buttons, unlike real buttons, will not require extra postage. A winner in so many ways!

  5. I was just looking at the dies yesterday and wondering what to do with them. Thanks for the great starting off point. Darling card my friend.

  6. Those buttons are right out of my grandmother’s button box!! Love there are dies for them. The new nested dies along with the tufted EF and pretty buttons make a great card. Have a wonderful day!

    • Thanks so much, Hilda! I’m so happy you like it. My grandma had a button box, too! We used to dump them out and sort them before dumping them back into the box. What fun!

  7. Yep that was the perfect embossing folder to use! The soft colors are wonderful……this is cute as a button….I had to say it….?

  8. I agree with Linda (above) This card is cute as a BUTTON !
Love the quilted background and the colors are perfect .
    Cute Cute Cute !!!

  9. Such a sweet card Brian, I love how the background looks like a baby blanket!

    • I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first ran that paper through the embossing folder – happy with how it turned out. Thanks, Dawn! ♥

  10. The tufted 3D embossing folder has been my go to ever since it arrived on the scene. I have used it for wedding, sympathy, engagement, birthday and even anniversary cards. It is so versatile that it covers all occasions regardless of whether the occasion is formal or oh so informal. I even got comments on a Christmas card I used it on. I may have to buy a second one because I might be wearing out the one I have. Your card today is so sweet and soft and has convinced me to take a second look at the arts & crafts stamps and dies. Love it!

    • Thanks so much for that full recommendation of this folder – it’s far more versatile than I’ve given it credit for. ♥ I was not too excited about the Arts & Crafts Dies until I played around with these buttons – it’s a fun set.
