A Season of Thanks with Gather Together

I shared a fun Halloween project with you yesterday – the colors were bold, and the fun card was built with intricate layers and cutouts. If you missed my Halloween my Spooktacular Bash card, you can see it here. Today I’m sharing a Thanksgiving card with a more subdued feel that features the products from the Come to Gather Suite in Stampin’ Up!’s 2019 Holiday Catalog. Here’s my card for this week’s Global Design Project sketch challenge:

  • Gather Together. While Thanksgiving (my favorite holiday of the year) isn’t celebrated in all parts of the world, we can all find reasons to come together and be grateful. The Fall images and thankful sentiments in the Gather Together stamp set and the coordinating Gathered Leaves Dies are a sweet reference to fall in any country. I can almost feel the crisp air of Autumn. Here’s a look at the Gather Together Bundle:Gather Together Bundle, Stampin' Up! 153036My card features two designs that are featured on one of the pages in the GORGEOUS Come to Gather Designer Series Paper – The Pretty Peacock and Mint Macaron leaves are on one side of the page, while the stripes are on the backside of the same page. I love the pairing of the two – one detailed design, one simple design. • Watercoloring with a Wink. How gorgeous is this leaf? Don’t you just LOVE it? While there are so many elements in the Gathered Leaves Dies I could have used to accent the leaf, I think it stands on its own. The sentiment from Gather Together fit perfectly inside a Stitched Nested Labels Die:Gather Together Bundle, Come to Gather Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, Thanksgiving cardHere’s how I created this beautiful watercolored look on this leaf: I stamped the leaf on Thick Whisper White cardstock with Pretty Peacock ink. Before the ink dried, I painted over the image (moving in large swirls) with a Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush. Not only did the Wink of Stella Glitter Brush pull color from the leaf, but it added a little sparkle that doesn’t show up in all of the pictures. • Beautiful Blend. There’s something magical about the blend of aqua tones. While you might think Mint Macaron is pure green – but how many times you have mistaken it for Pool Party? While the richer Pretty Peacock has more of a blue tone, there’s some green hidden in there, too! When I watercolored over the Pretty Peacock ink, you can see some tones of Mint Macaron. That’s why they are a perfect match! If you like this combination of Whisper White, Mint Macaron and Pretty Peacock, please save this: Stampin' Up! 1. Those photos of before and after Stampin’ Up! crack me up! Your card today is pretty as a peacock!

  2. I agree with Mary about the card and I, too, get a laugh every time I see those pictures. A great way to get my morning started! Enjoy your day!

  3. Love the monochromatic card. Striking! (In good way!) Can’t wait to get my bundle as Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday as well. Have a great Monday.

  4. Those mattes get me every time! Gorgeous card Brian, and fun pictures!

  5. PERFECT Thanksgiving card my friend.

  6. Very nice card and great use of the stripes DSP. I will have to use the nested label for the sentiment when I ink it up. I have only used the pumpkins so far!

  7. Oh Brian – I’m already in love with that stamp set and dies and I haven’t even seen the Holiday catalog yet. Fall is starting to seep into the air here in Maine where we have had fantastic weather this past week. Bright, beautiful days in the 70’s and cool crisp nights in the 50’s. My favorite season and your card today is already a favorite design for me. I would never have thought of using Pretty Peacock for fall & Thanksgiving cards but it’s perfect. Thanks for opening my eyes to this color for fall.

  8. Love your musing about aqua tones and blending various shades . I have a strong affection (or addiction ) to colors . I have been putting swatches of various colors of Blends on glossy cardstock using some of our blues and greens or aquas ,etc . I agree that there are so many variables . So pretty ! I really like your card with that pretty leaf and your color choice.
