The Stillness of the Season

I had a lot of fun with this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge – on Thursday I shared an over-the-top birthday card that’s filled with HAPPY (you can see it here), and today I’m sharing a Christmas card inspired by the simple sketch. Here’s my card:

Snow Globe Scenes Dies, Merry Moose, Stampin Up!

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Snow Globe Scenes. The snow globe in the Still Scenes stamp set and coordinating Snow Globe Scenes is wonderful, but you aren’t limited to making a snow globe. The elements that are available to add to a snow globe can also be used outside of the snow globe. Here’s a look at the Snow Globe Scenes Dies:  Snow Globe Scenes Dies, Stampin Up! 150655 I want to share two cards I made last year with these Snow Globe Scenes Dies – no snow globe, but sweet cards with these dies. Like today’s card, both of these cards were made for CAS(E) This Sketch layouts. Both also use the same plaid You can click on the image for either of these pictures to see the original post for each:Itty Bitty Christmas, Wrapped in Plaid, Snow Globe Scenes, Stampin' Up!, Brian King Snow Globe Scenes Dies, Itty Bitty Christmas, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Building a Snowy Landscape. Do you love a snowy landscape? I build mine with the curved die from the Home Together Dies, part of the Coming Home Bundle. After I cut a Whisper White panel the width I wanted for my card, I cropped the top with my dies. I then placed the die a smidge (that’s totally a technical term) lower to crop it again, giving me the piece that’s slightly disconnected from the ground. Here’s a look at the Coming Home Bundle, which should definitely be on your wish list (if you don’t already have it):Coming Home Bundle, Stampin Up! 155144Before gluing these two pieces to the Pool Party base, I applied glitter to the small band with my Wink of Stella Glitter Brush. Such an easy way to add a little shine (without the mess)! I also added Wink of Stella Glitter to the star that was cropped with the Stitched Stars Dies (but I easily could have used the star from the center of the little house in the Home Together Dies…wish I had thought that one out.
  • Merry Moose. The sweet sentiment on this card really puts the cherry on top of this scene, don’t you think? “Enjoy the stillness of the season” is from the Merry Moose stamp set, part of the Merry Moose Bundle. Stampin’ Up! doesn’t often carry over the bundled savings on a stamp set/punch duo or stamp set/dies duo, but this returning favorite is offered as a bundle (10% off) in the August – December Mini Catalog. You can’t pass up savings like that! Here’s a look at the Merry Moose Bundle: Merry Moose Bundle, Stampin' Up! 153015

Stamp Sets: Merry Moose  Papers: Night of Navy, Pool Party, Whisper White  Inks: Night of Navy  Accessories: Snow Globe Scenes Dies, Stitched Stars Dies, Home Together Dies, Wink of Stella Glitter Brush, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to the CAS(E) This Sketch site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

  1. There is such a sweetness to those two polar bears! Darling concept!

  2. You have created a CASEworthy card my friend. LOVE IT.

  3. Awesome idea for the sketch…so peaceful!

  4. The polar bears are perfect for this sketch. Every time I see polar bears like that I think of Coke’s “Open Happiness” campaign.

    • It’s crazy, Ann, how much that campaign has an impact on us. It’s what I think of anytime I see polar bears. Such a great impression! I didn’t mention it here, but I definitely thought of that campaign when this card was done. ♥

  5. How simple, yet so sweet, the kind of card if you receive, you wish you had a few extra to send out to special friends!

  6. I agree the sentiment is perfect for this elegant card. I love the bears and your take on the sketch. Enjoy your day!

  7. Love this card…but I gotta tell you the first thing I thought about when I spied the star and bear; our California Flag!

How sweet and endearing!! Love the Mama Polar Bear and her little baby, this scene is just beautifully done!!
Thank you for sharing, stay healthy and safe.
    Hugs.

    • Thanks, Maria! I’ve wanted to use these polar bears before, but they’ve never quite made them onto my blog. So happy to use them here, and I’m so glad you like what I made. ♥

  9. Brian, great card. Can you explain why your card made me thirsty for an ice cold coke? All kidding aside it is simple yet the imagery stays in your mind. Great job
