Gilded Autumn Thanks for FMS451

Today is Labor Day, a federal holiday in the United States that honors the laborers who’ve helped to build this country and who continue to work to make it a wonderful place to live. While this is a special holiday, it’s even more important in 2020 – so many have helped to keep this country moving when it seemed that so much was going wrong. It felt right, then, to make a “thank you” card in honor of this holiday. It might be Thanksgiving-themed, but it’s still my show of appreciation. Here’s my card:

Gather Together, Gilded Autumn, Stampin Up!, Brian King

My card was inspired by the sketch at this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. Here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card: FMS451Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Gilded Autumn. Have you taken a moment to study the gorgeous pages in the Gilded Autumn Specialty Designer Series Papers? The two Cajun Craze panels of gourds really sets the tone for a beautiful Fall-themed card. The left panel is 1-1/4″ wide, and the panel on the right panel is 1″ wide. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Gilded Autumn Specialty Designer Series Paper: Gilded Autumn Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up! 153520The front page of each of these pages is designed with copper foil and/or gold foil designs that really look great against the rich colors in the papers. If you’d like to flip through each of the pages of this paper for a closer look, click on the image below to flip through them in my online store: Gilded Autumn Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up!
  • Focal Layers. While the sketch calls for a sentiment right across these two panels on the face of the card, I added a pumpkin, some leaves and a sweet, tiny sentiment banner. Here’s a closer look:  Gather Together, Gilded Autumn, Stampin Up!, Brian KingHere is how I built this little trio that’s the focal point of this card:
    • The pumpkin is stamped with the Gather Together stamp set in Cajun Craze on Thick Very Vanilla. I cropped it with the coordinating Gathering Leaves Dies. I love that Stampin’ Up! has brought back this bundle – and that they’ve offered it with 10% savings on the bundle in the new Mini Catalog!
    • The leaves that stick out from behind the pumpkin are cropped with the Sunflowers Dies, found in Stampin’ Up!’s 2020 Annual Catalog. I cropped one in Crumb Cake and added a soft green with one in Pear Pizzazz.
    • I masked the “Season of Thanks” sentiment from Gather Together (inked up the stamp, put masking tape over everything but “thanks” and stamped on Crumb Cake cardstock. I cropped the sentiment with the Classic Label Punch, snipped one end flat and cropped a banner tip with the end of the punch. I popped this banner up with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Color Combination. I love the rich tones of Fall  – perhaps it’s why I love the Gilded Autumn Specialty Designer Series Paper so very much! I pulled Cajun Craze, Early Espresso, Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla from this pack of papers but added a little Pear Pizzazz for a softness behind my focal point. If you like the warm mix of Crumb Cake, Cajun Craze and Early Espresso, I hope you will save this for future reference:Stampin Up! Color Inspiration: Crumb Cake, Cajun Craze, Early Espresso

  2. Brian, this is a beautiful card- very classy.

  3. I like the striking layout of your card mainly because of your choice of paper and added items . This DSP is so pretty that it is hard to decide which pattern to use in putting a card together . I think the choice you made would be mine also !
    Great card !

  4. Absolutely stunning card today Brian. I think that backing layer of crumb cake brought the other colors to the forefront. You are amazing!

    • Awwww….thank you so much, Grace! Funny story – I placed the main panel down with dimesionals directly on the Cajun Craze panel but realized it needed something else. I cut the dimensionals, rolled them off both panels and added the Crumb Cake panel. It’s almost like you already knew the story… Always love to hear from you!
