Thinking of You with Mountain Air & In The Pines

Today kicks off FabFriday’s 200th challenge! That’s quite an accomplishment, but it’s even more extraordinary when you consider this online challenge runs for two weeks with each challenge. I’m so happy to be a part of this talented group of designers – I’m always excited to see what they’ve made with new sketches or color combinations. Here’s my card for the color challenge that launches today:

Mountain Air, In the Pines, Stampin Up!, Brian King

The color challenge that launches today is PERFECT for a Halloween card, but I went in another direction with my project since the colors were perfect for my landscape idea. Here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

Stampin Up! Color Inspiration: Basic Black, Highland Heather, Garden Green, Granny Apple Green, Pumpkin PieTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • The Great Outdoors. My card features two bundles that are perfect for any nature-lover: the mountains and moon are from the Mountain Air Bundle (a bundle carried forward from Stampin’ Up!’s January – June 2020 Mini Catalog into Stampin’ Up!’s 2020 Annual Catalog). While there are so pretty trees in the Mountain Air Bundle, the trees on my card are from the In the Pines Bundle (new in Stampin’ Up!’s August – December 2020 Mini Catalog). • Fun Tips. I love when basic techniques serve me well. There are two fun tips I wanted to share about the landscape I created as the focal point of my card. Before I share those tips, I’d love you to take a closer look at this part of the card:Mountain Air, In the Pines, Stampin Up!, Brian KingHere are two fun techniques on this card:
    • The mountains. The dies in the Majestic Mountain Dies that crop out this mountain range include both the tops of the mountains the bottom. I really wanted my mountains to extend onto the Thick Whisper White base, so I had to find a way to cut the top without cutting the bottom. Here’s how I did that:
      • I stamped the mountain on Thick Whisper White.
      • I slid the paper through the die so that the cutting side was aligned over the top of the mountains but that the base of the mountains was positioned under the paper.
      • I ran the mountains through my Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, stopping when the tops were cut and reversing course to avoid an indentation at the base.
    • The moon. I tried to stamp and crop my moon several times but never liked how it turned out. It always stood out too much, stealing focus from the mountains and trees. Here’s how I created it without making it stand out too much:
      • I stamped the moon directly on the Basic Black background with Versamark ink.
      • I sprinkled the image with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and melted the powder with my Heat Tool.
      • I colored the embossed Whisper White moon with a Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Blend. The alcohol marker paints right over the embossed image.
