Happy Holidays with So Many Snowflakes

I love every single one of Stampin’ Up! blues – the aqua tones and the true blues alike. Whether you are building an ocean landscape for summer or an ice-cold winter scene, you can’t go wrong with a gorgeous mix of soft, rich or bright blues. I used four of my favorite blues and a fun sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch to make this snowflake-filled card that also hopes your holidays are happy. Here’s my card:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Water Spots. To create my card in the likeness of the CAS(E) This Sketch layout, I created four blue water spots to mimic the four hearts in the sketch. My water spots overlap just a bit to beautifully mix the blues. Do you recognize the water spots? They are oil stains from the Geared Up Garage stamp set: Geared Up Garage, Stampin Up! 148590Fun, huh? You probably wouldn’t have thought to reach for your Geared up Garage stamp set when making a snowy card, would you? I just love the wintry look of the splotch. I used the same image a couple of months ago to add some warm texture to this Fall-themed card (you can click on the image below to see the original post for this project): Beautiful Autumn, Stitched Leaves Dies, Stampin Up!, Brian KingThat little oil spill is quite versatile, huh?
  • Shiny Snowflakes. While the sketch elements were the water spots and sentiment (a favorite of mine pulled from Itty Bitty Christmas stamp set), I added four snowflakes from the So Many Snowflakes Dies, part of the Snowflake Wishes Bundle. Here’s a look at this bundle: Snowflake Wishes Bundle, Stampin Up! 155172On my card, I used the small snowflake in the top, right corner of the product photo and the snowflake just below it. After I cropped the snowflakes, I painted them with my Wink of Stella Glitter Brush to give them a subtle shine. • Beautiful Blues. While three of the inks I used for my wintry mix of blues have a lot of green in them (Pool Party, Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay are beautiful aquas), the softest blue on this card, Seaside Spray, is a true blue (not a lot of green tone in that one). I so love all of these colors, but they are really special together. If you like this mix of Seaside Spray, Pool Party, Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference: Stampin Up! Good morning, Brian,
The first time I looked at your card at 5:50 AM, I didn’t have my “readers” on ?and I was looking at it on my phone which is 4 phones behind the newest ? one!
With readers on, I thought “wow”, how did he do that?
AWESOME! From using the “garage” stamp set to the beautiful color palette ? to the added touch of Wink of Stella … great card, Brian! Thank you!

    • Thank you so much, Suzie! I really had fun with this card and was excited to share it. I love that you are excited to see my card each day – I appreciate you more than you can ever know. ♥

  3. Your falliing snowflakes are so pretty! Great idea for the background…worked perfectly!

    • Thank you so much, Linda! I was going to use the snowflakes as the elements of the sketch, but they didn’t look right in a single-file line. The splotches worked for me. 🙂

  4. Pretty card! But then, in my mind, you can never go wrong with blue.

  5. This is so lovely, especially with the splashes of soft color and beautiful die cut snowflakes!

  8. Here I thought you watercolored the splotches. The stamp from All Geared Up might be the reason I put that set on my next order. Gorgeous card!

  9. Really beautiful card. Until I read your blog, I thought you had used watercolors. Great use of the splotch stamp. Thank you for coming up with different ways to use our stamps.

  10. Well Brian – I’m married to a mechanic and he has never, ever made what I would consider a “beautiful” oil spot! LOL Only you could take something that is ordinarily an accidental, ugly mess and turn it into a breathtaking
Christmas card. Can you see my head shaking in wonderment? LOL

    • Awwww…thank you so much, Grace! I made it just for him. 🙂 So glad you like it – now you can use your “car set” to make beautiful snow cards for your friends. Thanks! ♥

  11. As you know, I always love your tips. This very clever, easy way of getting water spots is amazing. Love your card. Enjoy your day!
