I Thought of You Today

Since the Plaid Tidings 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper first arrived on my doorstep, I’ve been SO EXCITED to play with this gorgeous plaid piece that’s rich with amazing Fall tones. It reminds me of a button down shirt I wore (and loved) in high school – I was really cool in that shirt! Today, I’m featuring this fun plaid in a big way – as a really large panel on a sweet card. Here’s my card:

CTS399Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Love of Love of Leaves. I have a real love for Love of Leaves. Let’s start with how wonderful the sentiment I used on this card is – who doesn’t want to know that they are thought of. I just think it’s an amazing thing to say to someone else (even though it’s inferred on nearly every card you send, it’s still nice to hear, right?). Here’s a look at the Love of Leaves stamp set and coordinating Stitched Leaves Dies:  Love of Leaves Bundle, Stampin Up! 155195This is an amazing bundle! Even if you don’t have time to make Thanksgiving 2020 cards, you should grab it up now so you have it for Thanksgiving 2021 (or anything in between). Here are some other projects I’ve shared with this set (you can click on the photos to see the original post for each project): Love of Leaves, Country Home, Stampin Up!, Brian King Love of Leaves, Stampin Up!, Brian King Love of Leaves, Gather Together, Stampin Up!, Brian King Love of Leaves Bundle, Stampin Up!, Brian King
  • Double-Stitched in Beautiful Papers. One of the great benefits of the Stitched Leaves Dies is that you can add stitching inside the leaf (if you want) and outside the leaf (if you choose to use the negative image). I cropped this leaf from Whisper White cardstock, leaving a beautifully stitched border when I popped out the leaf. I layered in a piece of Crushed Curry Designer Series Paper that I then ran through my die-cutting machine to create the stitched texture on the inside of the leaf. How fun is that?! Love of Leaves Bundle, Stampin Up!, Brian KingThe leaf is showcased in a monochromatic, ombré page from Playing with Patterns 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper from Stampin’ Up!’s 2020 Annual Catalog. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in this pack of papers:Playing with Patterns Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up!, 152490The bold plaid in the background of this card is pulled from the Plaid Tidings 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper. • Color Combination. Even though the plaid in my background paper is Bumblebee and the page for my leaf is Crushed Curry, they work together seamlessly on the card. The ombré effect of the Playing with Patterns Paper (Bumblebee) offers a variety of yellow tones, dark and soft. I was able to find a place in the yellows that looks great with the Bumblebee background. I love how these papers blend so well with each other. If you like this mix of Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze and Pretty Peacock as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:Stampin Up! 1. Love the card and you are still cool, regardless of shirt! The Love of Leaves bundle is definitely on my list to buy.

Brian, two things stand out for me in your card this morning. The first is how you offset your background DSP. It caught my eye first thing. The other thing is your use of the ombré DSP from Playing with Patterns DSP!
The Plaid Tidings DSP pack reminds me of living up north all those years and plaid flannel shirts! I love plaid shirts flannel or not. Thank you for the great card and the memories!

    • Thank you so much, Suzie! The sketch inspired me to the fun layout, and I was excited to have that bold pattern front-and-center (or, er…front-and-off-center). Thanks for your kind and thoughtful comments. ♥

  3. This is my absolute favourite of all the plaids in this DSP pack Brian – now I’ve visions of you wearing it too, I bet that shirt was great!! Love those leaves too. Happy almost-Thanksgiving wishes to you!

    • Thank you so much, Joanne! I was excited to just showcase the large panel of this plaid – I waited for the right moment. Always love to hear from you! ♥

  4. Well this card just makes me want to cuddle up with some cabin socks on and drink hot cocoa…..But….It’s 90 here in AZ and THAT’S NOT going to happen. But I will cozy up to your fantastic card my friend.

    • I love that description, Kadie! Cabin socks – not sure I’ve ever had them. We’re barefoot in the house all year long. So glad you like the card. Appreciate your sweet comments.

  5. I love your take on the sketch with the pretty papers and gorgeous leaf to make this very pretty fallish card. Enjoy your day!

  6. Awesome card..love the sentiment and the layering of course!

  7. The “stitching” is the magic! Love the plaid you chose.

  8. Where’s the pictures of you in the shirt?????

  9. I was never a plaid person until I saw these papers. I think I have 4 or five of the 6 X 6 paper stacks of it but I want to hoard it instead of sending it on it’s way in the form of cards. I know, that’s horrible and I’m always happy to share but not this time. LOL I love the color combination and the leaves dies. Today’s card is out of the ballpark beautiful.

    • Thanks so much, Grace! I love this page, but I also love that the pack includes such a great variety of colors. That makes the papers versatile to be used all year. I’m so wishy washy about paper I love – I, too, want to hoard it and never cut it, but I also recognize it’s meant to be used and loved. ♥ It’s always wonderful to hear from you. ♥

  10. Love this card!!!

  11. This is definitely a gorgeous plaid….beautiful card!
