Let’s Set Sail with New Horizons

I’m totally in love with the New Horizons 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper – the watercolored images set the tone for beautiful scenes in a variety of locations – hills, mountains, beaches and lakes. The card I’m sharing today takes one of the gloomier pages from this pack of papers and turns it into a lovely sunset boat ride. Here’s my card:

Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in this pack of papers (please do yourself a favor and click on the image below to flip through all of the pages in my online store):

New Horizons Designer Series Paper, Stampin Up!, Brian KingWhile it looks like mountains along a body of water, the deep purple can also look like ominous clouds coming in. Once I cropped the piece I wanted for my card (from the top, left corner), though, the dark clouds disappeared and a calm backdrop appeared. Once I stamped the boat, you could definitely see the calm waters and cool backdrop.

The boat that’s floating on the calm waters is stamped and cropped with the Let’s Set Sail Bundle. Here’s a look at this fun bundle, new in Stampin’ Up!’s January – June 2022 Mini Catalog:

Let's Set Sail Bundle, Stampin Up!, 157906I stamped the base of my boat with Soft Suede and the sails with Soft Succulent. The two colors look so sweet and warm together. I also gave a little Misty Moonlight reflection in the water with the Let’s Set Sail stamp set. Here’s a closer look:

The first time I shared the Let’s Set Sail Bundle, my card was considerably brighter and cheerier than the one on this card – a testament to the versatility of this boat. Here’s that previously-shared card so you can see the difference (you can click on the image below to see the original post for that card):

  5. Perfect scene for the sailboat! Love it!

  6. Omgosh, so pretty! Love when i skim right past something in the catalog and you bring it to life. Gorgeous

  7. I love both cards, Brian. Today’s card definitely uses the New Horizons DSP to help create a calming scene. I have a friend who carves little boats to give to children wherever he encounters them. His birthday is coming up soon and he’ll be thrilled to receive a card with this boat. Thanks for your inspiration. Enjoy your day!

  8. This little sailboat made me think of the boats used for a children’s sailing class I used to watch every morning at the lake.
Funny~I can’t think of this particular DSP sheet as ominous, it’s all about the “purple mountains” for me. Love the card; and now I have to get THIS stamp set and punch…!

  9. Both are just wonderful and so beauitful Brian, have to admit to loving your first dramatic card.

  10. Perfect showcase of this DSP!
