Festive Words – Noel

It’s been a busy, busy week. While Louise is visiting from Australia, our evenings have been filled with fun events, giving me less time to craft and create for my blog. We’ve enjoyed dinners out and a Braves game. On Tuesday night, we had some friends over for a Thanksgiving dinner to introduce Louise to cornbread dressing and pecan pie. Louise came to the office with me on Wednesday and sat quietly with her Water Painters. Louise painted this hat from the Festive Words stamp set (I love it!), and I built this card around her water colored hat:

Here’s a look at the Festive Words stamp set, which includes four festive images with imbedded words:

I added a square of the gingham pattern from the A Little Bit Festive Specialty Designer Series Paper to the Misty Moonlight base (the square is a [just under] 4″ square cut with the pattern in the paper). Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in this festive pack of papers:

Louise stamped the hat with StazOn Jet Black ink on Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper and then colored the image with Misty Moonlight and a Water Painter. With a Stampin’ Write Marker, she added a little Real Red to the band on the hat. She stamped the image again, colored the holly leaves with Old Olive and snipped them out AND stamped the image again with Real Red. She snipped out the trio of berries and added them to the snipped holly. So smart!

I really, really wanted to add a Real Red band on the card front, but the red band made the card look more like a patriotic card. A Misty Moonlight band was too much blue. The Old Olive band gave me the right balance of color and still a little bit of Christmas. So happy with how it turned out. If you like this mix of Real Red, Old Olive and Misty Moonlight as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:

  1. Such a dapper hat and the perfect gingham print!

  2. That stamp set makes it easy to get a card together. I love Louise’s coloring of the hat and your clever way of showing it using the pretty plaid. Enjoy your day!

  3. Hello Brian and Louise
You guys created a great holiday card! Thanks for the idea!
    Enjoy your stay 😊

  4. Sounds like you guys are having a fabulous time!

  5. Thought I would pop in for a change. Love, love, this card. I have been intriqued with that stamp set and have been wanting to see more examples. Misty moonlight is a favorite color of mine so this really got my interest. I had to read about creating the card and why you put the old olive panel on there. It ties in the holly leaves so well. I really like the color combination. Enjoy your friendship and hope to see more creations you two collaborate on. Gee, no puns today. Oh wait, my hat is off to your wonderful card!

  6. Adorable card!

  7. I’m so glad to see Louise’s cards! I love her style, and her blending and color choices are always perfect. It doesn’t hurt that I love pink. 🙂 I often check her site to see if she has something new. I’ve missed her . . .
