A Thank You on Memorial Day

It’s Memorial Day weekend in the United States. Memorial Day weekend falls on the last Monday of May every year and is viewed as the unofficial kickoff to Summer. While we enjoy cookouts, picnics and outdoor events during this three-day weekend, today is a day to remember those who’ve died in military service to our country. With that in mind, I’ve made a gorgeous thank you card with a simple layout and coordinating elements. Here’s my card:

With You in Mind, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, patriotic card

There’s not an American flag on my card, but you also know it’s there. I layered seven 1/4″ x 4-1/4″ strips of the Real Red pattern from the Regals 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper on a Secret Sea pattern from the 2025-2027 In Color 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper. They work perfectly together, don’t you think?!

The sentiment on my card is stamped in Secret Sea with the With You in Mind stamp set. Here’s a look at the sentiments and images in this versatile stamp set:

I adore the sentiments in this set – and there are cute images, as well. My card also features stars from the stamp set. Here’s a closer look at the sentiment and images on my card:

I hand-snipped the stars and peppered them around the sentiment with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals. I also added three Gold Flower Accents (that don’t really look like flowers on my patriotic card). I’ve included a link to these accents in the product listing at the base of this post.

I love the new patterns in the color family 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Papers in the 2025 Annual Catalog. These patterns are versatile and fun. Here’s a look at the patterns (I’m using the pages from the Secret Sea papers as an example):

Secret Sea Designer Series Paper Patterns, Stampin' Up! 165300I wasn’t sure where my cardmaking adventure would take me when I set out to make a patriotic card to share with you today. I knew I’d used patterned papers, but I wasn’t sure which pages or how I would showcase them. When I chose the “thank you” from With You in Mind, I was happy to see it included a star (that I didn’t know I needed). 🙂

I’m CASE-Ing with a smaller “Thank you” in a white star. Perfect timing for the inspiration—I owe my local VFW several thank you’s for hosting a fundraising dinner for our local cancer center. I can always count on you to jump-start my creativity. THANKS!

  13. Brian, your water logged card is maybe more appropriate – bedraggled, a little more worn – just like a true Veteran – worn out and used but still note worthy and loved. I liked it also and am glad you showed it.
When I first saw your card as you presented it on your website I loved it. And could tell right off it was a representation of the flag. Great work and a beautiful card – either and both.
Love your site and all you share with us.

  14. Yes, I’ve spilled many times! I now use tops on my drinks. Please note: It could have been worse, RED WINE is a total disaster!
Love your card, I will use your pattern when making cards for my local VA hospital. TYFS!
