On a whim last week, we grabbed tickets to see the new Jurassic World film – our first movie theater outing since last fall. The movie was fun (if a bit predictable), but I was just as excited about the buttery popcorn … which cost almost as much as the tickets!
Today, I’m sharing a super-fun card inspired by that movie snack moment. Featuring an adorable popcorn box, a punny sentiment, and some easy cardmaking tips you’ll love, this project is sure to bring a smile. Here’s a look at my card:
How cute is that fun popcorn box taking center stage on this card!? The stamp set comes with two great, punny sayings — “no one butter than you” and “Poppin’ in to say hello.” I love them both, but I just couldn’t pass up the butter pun for this card.
Here’s a look at the Poppin’ By Bundle, which was introduced earlier this year as part of an Online Exclusives launch:
Two Papers
My card features two Designer Series Papers that pair perfectly with the cartoon-style popcorn box at the center:
- Weekend Adventure. This paper was still sitting on my desk from a Halloween project earlier this week. Those stripes are so versatile and fun – I couldn’t resist using them again here!
- Brights 6″ x 6″. I flipped through my Brights 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper collection and found this speckled Daffodil Delight pattern — which, funnily enough, looks just like a buttery popcorn stain. How perfect is that?!
Links to these papers are provided at the base of this post if you want to see them in my online store.
Two Techniques
I used two super-fun stamping techniques to create the 3-D–glasses-wearing popcorn box on my card. The result is a playful, movie-ready character that practically jumps off the page! Here’s a closer look at this fun little movie-watcher:
And here are the techniques I used to make him:
The Stamped Image: This single stamp includes the popcorn box (which, of course, has to be red), the popcorn itself (definitely not red!), and the eyes and feet that give our box its personality. I placed the stamp on my MISTI, colored each part with Stampin’ Write Markers, then gave the ink a quick “huff” to remoisten it before stamping onto white paper. I repeated the process until I got an image I was happy with.
The 3-D Glasses: How adorable are the glasses that come with the coordinating dies? They add such a fun touch! To make them really pop, I colored a strip of Window Sheet using Stampin’ Blends in Dark Summer Splash and Dark Poppy Parade. I glued the glasses onto the sheet with Adhesive Sheets, then popped them up on the card with a Mini Glue Dot. Super fun, right?!
If you love the fun mix of these classic colors – Daffodil Delight, Real Red and Basic Black – as much as I do, I hope you’ll save this for future reference:
Bundles: Poppin’ By Stamps: Poppin’ By Papers: Weekend Adventures Designer Series Paper, Brights 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (Daffodil Delight), Basic Black, Real Red, Basic White, Window Sheet Inks: Stampin’ Write Markers (Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Basic Black), Stampin’ Blends (Poppy Parade, Summer Splash), Memento Tuxedo Black Accessories: Poppin’ By Dies, Stylish Shapes Dies, Low Profile Sparkle Dots (Darling Duckling), Stampin’ Dimensionals
