Matthew’s 50th Birthday

Today is my “baby” brother’s 50th birthday. I won’t be able to spend time with Matthew today, but I was able to hang out with him earlier this week and hand him this card in person. What an important milestone—and I’m happy to commemorate it with a special card just for him. I had the right products on hand to make a stylish card with a little humor inside.

Here’s the birthday card I made for Matthew’s 50th:

Birthday card with Modern Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingThe card features three designs from the Modern Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper. I absolutely love these cool, modern designs. While they’re perfect for Christmas cards, this is the second time I’ve showcased these pages for a non-Christmas design (If you’d like to see the Halloween card I made with these papers, click here).

Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Modern Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper:

Here’s how I built the focal layers on Matthew’s card (starting with the gold label and working up):

  • The base of the sentiment is cropped from Gold Foil with the Traditional Labels Dies .
  • The banner is cropped from Basic Black cardstock with the Traditional Labels Dies.
  • The Basic Black Circle is cropped from Basic Black cardstock with the 2-1/4″ Circle Die in a recent Paper Pumpkin Add-on (that’s no longer available).
  • The polka dotted panel from the Modern Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper is cropped with the Stylish Shapes Dies.
  • I cropped the “5” and “0” from both Gold Foil and Basic Black with the Birthday Celebration Dies, which are currently in the Last Chance list. They are added to the circle with Mini Glue Dots.

I added a trio of gold Adhesive-Backed Metallic Gems – as if the card needed a little more shine. 🙂

It couldn’t be all formal and sophisticated…so I reached for the Not 29 Anymore stamp set to create the sentiment on the inside of the card. Here’s a look at this fun set:

Not 29 Anymore, Stampin' Up! 166182I also pulled a bit of the Modern Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper to the inside of the card. Here’s a look at the inside of Matthew’s card:

I’m so happy with how this card turned out—and even happier to celebrate such a big milestone for my brother. It’s always fun to stretch my Christmas supplies into unexpected projects like this one. Happy 50th, Matthew!
