A Black Card for Black Friday

Happy Black Friday! For those outside the United States, today is the day immediately after Thanksgiving that kicks off the season of Christmas shopping. Some people have to work today – thank you so much for your contributions to the industry you serve. There are only two types of people who are not working on Black Friday: (1) lovely people who like to sleep in a bit but are still up early enough to enjoy the silence of the morning and (2) crazy people who wake up at 3am to go Christmas shopping. I’m not at the mall today. 🙂

To pay homage to Black Friday, I’ve made a black (and gold) Christmas Card. Here’s the card I made to share with you today:

Modern Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper, Greetings for You Ephemera Pack, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

The trio of trees and the starry backdrop are pulled from the Modern Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper, which is filled with gold, white and black pages. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Modern Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper:

Modern Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up! 165990I first tried to snip out the trio of trees from the first page of papers above, but I then realized I might be able to punch out the small grove with a circle punch. Quick tip: a 2-3/8″ Circle Punch works perfectly to crop these trees! Even better, that punch layers beautifully with the Stylish Shapes Dies.

Here’s a closer look at the trio of circles at the heart of my card:

Here’s a quick rundown of the circles at the heart of my card:

  • I cropped the Specialty Paper with the 2-3/8″ Circle Punch.
  • I layered them on Gold Foil that’s cropped with the second largest circle from the Stylish Shapes Dies.
  • I popped that up on a Basic Black circle that’s cropped with the largest circle from the Stylish Shapes Dies.

I added a gold foil sentiment from the Greetings for You Mix & Match Ephemera Pack – so handy to have these on hand! Here’s a look:

To finish the card, I added three gold gems from the Flower Accents. These embellishments are so shiny and a perfect final touch to any project.

Final Thoughts

This Black Friday-inspired card is such a fun way to embrace the deep, dramatic colors while keeping the holiday shine. I love how the trio of trees comes together with the trio of circles and the trio of gold foil accents. I hope this idea inspires you.
