8 Glorious Birthday Cards

Over the past few weeks, I shared the gorgeous submissions from my Holiday One-for-One Card Swap (in case you missed them, I will share a link at the base of this post). Yesterday, in celebration of my big day, I shared a parade of birthday cards I have previously shared on my blog (you can see those projects here). You might think I’m done with parades, but … no. Today I’m excited to share eight incredible birthday cards I received from my cardmaking friends.

For each of these cards, I’m sharing a little blurb about what I love about each. There’s a lot of inspiration here from card-makers at all levels. I’m quite certain there are more cards to come (these are all the cards I received as of yesterday’s mail run), but here are the ones that made it for my birthday:

by Michelle Cahoon

Michelle, thank you for this gorgeous card. This design is everything I love – a graphic pattern with incredible colors, simple framing and a bold sentiment. Michelle used the Sunshine Vibes stamp set to build these circled with colors inspired by the Boho Vibes 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper – Cajun Craze, Daffodil Delight, Secret Sea, Cloud Cover and Mossy Meadow. Could this mix of colors be more perfect? Here’s the card I received from Michelle:

A gorgeous sailboat and ocean view are perfect for all kinds of cards – retirement, birthday and thank you. The Sunrise Sailing stamp set is currently in the Last Chance List (the dies have sold out). Amy mounted her sailboat on a panel from the Boho Vibes 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper. Love it! You know I love a simple design and appreciate this one from my local friend Ellen. I could be wrong, but I think the paper and card base are Certainly Celery, a Stampin’ Up! color that has long been retired – such a subtle, soft green. A simple strip of paper (framed by white, of course) is the perfect start to a lovely, thoughtful card. Here’s the card I received from Ellen:

Sheryl is a long-time friend of mine from the other side of the country. The candles look familiar, and (of course) I love the mix of blues, greens and aquas Sheryl used to build the backdrop of this card. The sentiment and exclamation mark are not familiar to me, but I absolutely love the exclamation mark. This card doesn’t just say “Happy Birthday,” it shouts and sings it. Here’s the fun card I received from Sheryl:

I grew up by the ocean and have always been partial to lighthouses for their stature, importance to seafaring and symbolism in so many works of literature. Did Barbara already know all of that when she built this gorgeous lighthouse with white brick pattern? I can’t know, but she got it right – I love this card. Here’s the card I received from Barbara:

Linda has never made a plain card, so I never expected she’d send me this plane card…see what I did there?! I was so happy to receive this card from Linda, another long-time friend. I didn’t recognize the planes, but I did recognize the shiny Cloud Cover panel of Flower Garden Foils Specialty Paper. Such a fun accent to a fun card. Here’s the card I received from Linda:

You might think I would melt if I wore a heavy sweater like the one on Monica Finley’s card, but I’ve been bundling up the past few days. It’s been cold in Atlanta, but it hasn’t been as cold as Wisconsin (where the card was made). 🙂 Such fun layers and colors! This is a great example of how winter images can be used for more than Christmas. Here’s the card I received from Monica:

It’s no secret that I love a monochromatic card – and Bobbi knew that as she made this dramatic stunner for me. The Sunflower 3D Embossing Folder has been really popular this Fall – this card design perfectly showcases the beauty of this folder. Love! Here’s the card I received from Bobbi:

Aren’t these wonderful?! I don’t think each of these ladies sat down to specifically design a card for me (I’m just as grateful to have received a card from their birthday card stash), but I love each and every one for very different reasons. I hope you’ll leave a comment to let these crafty ladies know how much you love their cards.

  1. Hi Brian
Happy Birthday 🎊 cards bring so much joy and certainly make your day very special!
All of these ladies showed off their many talents and incredible cards! The variety is wonderful!
Thank you for sharing them and I look forward to any others you receive! I especially love the Sweater card and still need to make something from that set! I know what Wisconsin winters can be like and it came early this year lol!

    • I agree – they are all pretty special. Thanks so much, Dawn! I’m afraid I may never know what Wisconsin winters are like – I’m suffering enough down here. 🙂

  2. Hope you had a lovely birthday. Fun and festive cards!

  3. Awesome cards…even the last one. 😀 Seriously though, thanks for the shout out. I hope you had an amazing birthday. No one deserves amazing more than you. And Merry Christmas to you and yours. ♥️

  4. Happy day after your birthday! I’m certain that all of those cards were designed with you in mind, that’s what we do, isn’t it? Thinking (and chatting) with the recipient in your head while you create? These cards are stunners, every one. TFS!

  5. Hope you had a wonderful day, Brian! I so rarely case almost exactly, but I fell in love with this card a classmate Stacy Banyai made in a recent virtual retreat that I had to make it for you. Colors I used: Lemon Lime Twist, Bermuda Bay, Mint Melody, and Brilliant Blue. I love my SU coordinating cardstock and ink!

  6. Even if YOU don’t extend your birthday celebrations, you’ll have to allow your absent-minded friends and followers to continue on for as long as it takes for us to get our acts together!

May your next trip around the sun be filled with nothing but health, happiness and puzzles with NO MISSING PIECES!

    • Hey Linda, I’ll be very upfront by saying I’ve never been really good about sending cards on birthdays. Now that I’m retired, I might not have an excuse. I suppose I need to figure that out, huh?
