I hope your Christmas was wonderful! If you are like me, you still have Christmas leftovers in the refrigerator and gift boxes waiting to be broken down. Alas, it’s time to start turning our attention to spring. Since we enjoyed a 75-degree Christmas, that doesn’t feel like much of a stretch for me.
Cute as a Bug
When Stampin’ Up!’s Spring Mini Catalog releases on January 6, the Cute as a Bug Suite Collection should be high on your wish list. I’m not always drawn to cutesy animal sets, but there is something extra special about these little bugs. They’re playful, charming, and full of personality.
Here’s a look at the Cute as a Bug Suite Collection:
I’ll give you a closer look at the bundle and the Designer Series Paper in a bit, but first, here’s the card I made using elements from this fun suite collection:
The base of my card is slightly smaller than a standard card base. The Mossy Meadow cardstock measures 5″ x 7-1/2″ and is scored at 3-3/4″.
I stamped the flowers and bugs with Memento Ink, colored them with a variety of Stampin’ Blends, and cropped them out using the Sweet Bugs Dies. Here’s a look at the Sweet Bugs Bundle:
This bundle includes 22 dies. While many of them cut frames for the stamped images, there are also flowers, leaves, mushrooms, and tiny elements that make it easy to build the cutest scenes and projects.
Here’s a closer look at the bugs and flowers I colored and cropped for this card:
Many of the images in the Cute as a Bug Designer Series Paper can be cut out with the Sweet Bugs Dies, but there are also some fantastic coordinating patterns that support the adorable bugs. I added a 1/2″ strip of one of these designs to my card. Here’s a closer look at the colors and patterns in the Cute as a Bug Designer Series Paper:
Do these festive bugs look familiar? And here are the same bugs, this time cropped directly from the Designer Series Paper:
It was definitely faster to cut the ants from the paper, but I had a lot of fun coloring the stamped images too.
Finishing Touches
To finish the card, I added a layer of Basic White cardstock embossed with the Beautiful Pattern 3D Embossing Folder. I finished things off with three Mossy Meadow dots from the Muted Palette Dots – such fun little accents that work perfectly with the parading ants.
Last Thoughts
This suite is a great reminder that “cute” can also be incredibly versatile. Whether you enjoy coloring stamped images, cutting straight from Designer Series Paper, or mixing both techniques on one project, the Cute as a Bug Suite Collection gives you plenty of options to play and create. It’s a cheerful way to welcome spring crafting, even if winter hasn’t quite left yet.
