How are we already at the end of the year?! I distinctly remember ringing in 2025, and it feels like that was just a month ago. And yet – here we are. I’ll be very happy to ring in 2026 (likely from the comfort of my bed) and I’m looking forward to all the new adventures the year ahead holds for me and the people I love.
Welcoming 2026
From the moment I saw the rich, gorgeous patterns in the black, gold, and white Modern Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper, I knew this paper would be perfect for Christmas – and beyond. Today I’m sharing a bit of that “and beyond” with a New Year’s card. Here’s the card I made to share with you today:
My card features two patterns from the Modern Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper. Here’s a closer look at the colors and designs included in this pack:
If I had any of the striped pattern left in my stash, I would have incorporated that one as well. Perhaps this is a sign that I need to order another pack so I won’t miss out next time.
The Layout
The layout of this card is simple and layered. I wanted something reminiscent of a black-and-white composition notebook – you know the ones with the speckled covers and the label on the front. Here’s a picture to jog your memory:
The comparison to a composition notebook with the layout is a nod to “turning the page” and “opening a new book” as we step into a new year filled with challenges, opportunities, and adventures. You saw that connection in my card, right?
I remembered making a card years ago that had a similar composition notebook feel, so I dug through old photos until I found it. The colors are definitely not composition notebook-inspired, and I know the measurements aren’t the same, but here’s the card that sparked the idea for today’s project (you can click the image below to see my original post):
The Sentiment
I die cut the year using the Alphabet a la Mode Dies and Gold Foil Specialty Paper. To position the numbers just right, I carefully lined them up on a 2″ x 2-1/2″ piece of Basic Black cardstock, using tweezers to nudge them into place until they were exactly where I wanted them. Once positioned, I placed a strip of Post-it Tape across the numbers, flipped everything over, and glued them down. The Post-it Tape made it easy to keep the spacing perfect while adhering the numbers to the panel.
Here’s a closer look at the numbers on my card:
And here’s a look at the Alphabet a la Mode Dies:
A Little Shine
The gold foil in the Designer Series Paper, the Gold Foil layers, and the Gold Foil numbers aren’t the only touches of shine on this card. I added a trio of Flower Accents for just a bit more sparkle.
There’s no doubt in my mind that these little flowers double as tiny fireworks on today’s New Year’s card.
Last Thoughts
This New Year’s card is a perfect example of how holiday products can stretch far beyond a single season. With classic colors, elegant shine, and a meaningful layout, the Modern Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper transitions beautifully into projects that celebrate fresh starts and new beginnings. I hope this card inspires you to turn the page and create something special as you welcome the year ahead.

Wow Brian
What a beautiful and stunning card representing ringing in the new year 2026!
I will love casing your card ! It actually would be the perfect cover for the notebook I keep my card ideas in.
Thank you for creating this modern design and sharing it with us!
You are so welcome, my friend! I was concerned it might be too simple, but I’m so glad it was so well-received. ♥
I’m so glad you shared this card today. I have this paper and stamp set but was getting ready to store it for next Christmas because of course, I never had a chance to use it this year. I love those beautiful big gold numbers. Perfect for a New Year card. My mind then went to birthdays! The black, white and gold paper would make a great birthday card too. So now I can “go forth and create” … we always need birthday cards. Happy New Year! 😊
That makes me so happy, Bobbi! You will love playing with this paper for any celebration. It’s just so formal – and yet so casual. Enjoy!
I love this…..so
Classy! Happy 2026!
Thanks, Linda! I always try to keep it classy. 🙂

I hope that 2026 is as sparkly and fun as your card! And that little birdie from so many years ago….I must find that set and use it! Both cards are wonderful inspiration for a nice day in the craftroom, so thank you!
Thank you so much, Cindie! I hope you have loads of fun with it! ♥
Love the card! The older we get the more the years fly by! Soon it will be 1 year since your retirement!
I can’t believe it! I was already wrapping things up at this point last year. Thanks so much, Maryann! ♥
Love your card, and love your tips for positioning the numerals!
Always happy to share. Thanks, Penny! ♥
