So Grateful: a PPA156 Color Challenge

While we can find inspiration in almost any form (layouts, themes, emotions or sentiments), color challenges are great ways to find inspiration for a project.  Sometimes, though, a color challenge is exactly that – a challenge.  Such is the case with this week’s Pals Paper Arts color challenge.   This week the PPA Color Challenge consists of three colors I rarely, if ever, use:  Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue and Marina Mist.

Here’s my card:Everything Eleanor, En Francais, Apothecary Art

And here’s the challenge badge:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders:

  • Sometimes a challenge is challenging.  Boy, oh boy, I sat with these three colors for a long time before decided to pair these three stamp sets together in one beautiful formal thank you.  Can you name all three before looking at the list below?  I told myself I couldn’t complete this challenge, but I’m happy with the end result.
  • Make it shine.  I interrupt this blog post for a product placement ad.  When I had stamped and colored and trimmed all the pieces to make this card, I needed a little something special to add dimension to the flower.  Rather than add glitter to the flower, I simply stamped the image with the Illuminate Glimmer Watermark Stampin’ Pad.  This pad was first offered in the Holiday Catalog but was carried over to the Spring Catalog.  Look at what a difference this makes: Illuminate Glimmer Pad
  • En Francais.  I have not idea what the French background stamp says (I took Spanish in school), but I have to believe it’s something beautiful and poetic that would fit nicely with these images.  Anyway, I received the stamp in the mail this week and couldn’t wait to use it.  I stamped it off once to get a partially faded image.  It’s such a pretty stamp.

Stamp sets:    Everything Eleanor, Apothecary Art, En Francais  Inks:  Marina Mist, Certainly Celery,  Illuminate Glimmer Watermark Stampin’ Pad  Papers:  Certainly Celery, Marina Mist, Bashful Blue, Very Vanilla  Accessories:  Blender Pens, Certainly Celery Stampin’ Write Marker, 3/8″ Taffeta Ribbon (Certainly Celery), Stampin’ Dimensionals

  1. This is a really beautiful card. I like the way you use just one flower. I usually use multiple flowers and forget the simplicity and beauty of a single blossom. I think the yellow center is a nice addition to the blue and green of the challenge colors.

    • Thanks, Shannon! I appreciate not. I actually used the Certainly Celery Stampin’ Write Marker to add depth to the center of the flower. I actually stayed true to these colors. 🙂

  2. That is such a nice look! 🙂

  3. Beautiful card! I must have Everything Eleanor, ignored her for so long! Question, how does the flower look like it was first stamped in blue? I didn’t pay attention to this demonstration at Leadership last fall. Silly me! Pinning this stunning artwork!

  4. Pretty card ! And would you just know it …SU is retiring two of the colors . I agree that doing the challenge pushes you to use different colors than you regularly would .
Thanks again for the surprise card supplies that you sent the club members . I made 6 cards yesterday and have enough dsp left over for more . If any one is on the fence about joining the club think about the fact that you are probably going to spend $25 on SU this month anyway …why not enjoy the benefits of belonging to a fun club . 😀

  5. Really pretty Brian, love the shimmer of the Illuminate Glimmer Water Mark, I overlooked it but I’m so glad it was carried over, one more item added to my April order, taking advantage of the awesome free shipping promo.

  6. Stunning! I’ve seen the background stamp used twice this week – I usually shy away from such big ones, but this one is drawing me in.
I’d give you an A++ on this one, Brian!

  7. Quite lovely!!!

  8. Another great creation. Using the Illuminaten Glitter Water Mark add just the right amount of bling. It is something that I don’t have in my supplies. Ummmmm…..maybe it will find it’s way on my list of ‘gotta have it’. Have a great weekend Brian and everyone.

    • Lisa, Thanks! With free shipping on orders this weekend, it’s a perfect time to snatch up a couple of things you’ve been wanting. 🙂 🙂 🙂

  9. A friend of mine has told me that the En Francais is a french poem.
I had asked her specifically to tell me what it said. It’s a definite on my wish list now!

  10. Truly scrumptious! (Remember that song?) Perfectly paired elements add up to one extremely pretty and very classy card. I missed one stamp set. 🙁

  11. Perfect in every way, Brian. I love how you muted the background stamp, and the Glimmer Watermark adds such a beautiful finish. There’s no clue in your finished card that you struggled with these colors! Thanks for sharing with us at Pals Paper Arts this week!

  12. Brian, you never cease to make me feel so happy, with your talent! This is lovely. I also do not have En Francais or that Illuminate pad, but with free shipping this weekend, I will. I am also going to send you a personal email, showing you what I did with old/new in colors. I got the idea from your blog post a few weeks ago, when you asked us what colors we wanted to keep. Wisteria Wonder ! YAY! Hugs…

  13. ooh so pretty Brian !!!

  14. What a lovely card! I love the colors. So calm and elegant! Great job!

  15. Hi Brian.
I am pretty new to your blog, but so glad I discovered it. It has become one of my favorites. Love the card. I’m really grateful for your insights and talent.

  16. For anyone that is interested – En Francais is a epigraph(poem) by a young french poet, Arthur Rimbaud, called “Aube” or”Dawn”. A translation into English can be found here : http://www.stampingwithbluemooncreations.com/blue_moon_stampers/2012/10/translation-of-en-francais-background-stamp.html.

Love the simple clean design of your card Brian.

  17. Gorgeous! I just very recently got this set – mainly for the lovely flourish! – but love what you did and this is inspiring me to use more of it! Thanks, Brian….love the color combo – so soft and pretty!

  18. Beautiful, Brian! En Francais is my all-time favorite background stamp!

  19. Beautiful card, Brian and gorgeous flower.
