Sunday’s Simple Saturday Birthday

Since yesterday’s post was jam-packed with a card, a video and a scrapbook page, I kinda’ overlooked our Simple Saturday tradition.  To hopefully make it up to you (nothing will ever wipe away the guilt I live with because of this oversight), I’m sharing a Simple Saturday project card today – just one day late.

As I was setting up for my Open House yesterday morning, I set out some cards that showcase some of the new stamp sets and products.  I came across a card that I created for my presentation on the cruise that I have not shared with you here.  I thought today would be a good time to bring that simple beauty to light.  Here’s my card:

Petite Pairs, Work of Art, What's Your Type?, Stampin' Up!, Brian King Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • What’s Your Type?.  As a part of my presentation on the cruise, I shared some alternative uses for the What’s Your Type stamp set.  At first, the set looks like a pile of abstract shapes and patterns.  What is one to do with these 23 photopolymer stamps?  While the set is designed to creatively create any letter of the alphabet, I wanted to simply create an abstract background for this sentiment.  If you would like to see the other projects I created with What’s Your Type?, please click here and here.
  • Work of Art.  I’ve seen many finished projects where the Work of Art stamp set is front-and-center.  I love the boldness of these projects, but I tend to see these shapes as a platform for a sentiment or another shape.  The paint splotch here serves as a canvas for the What’s Your Type? shapes and the Petite Pairs sentiment.
  • Color Combination.  This card started from a scrap piece of paper where I had stamped the Crushed Curry collection of shapes.  I really like the regal look of Crushed Curry with Island Indigo.  The three candy dots that are “artistically” placed under the images are really just a mask for a stray ink mark.  I thought one candy dot would cover it all up (and it did), but that left things all unbalanced, so I added two more.  The three candy dots added just the right amount of weight to balance everything out.  Woo hoo!

Stamp sets:  What’s Your Type?, Work of Art, Petite Pairs  Papers:  Island Indigo, Crushed Curry, Whisper White, Regals Designer Series Paper Stack (Island Indigo)  Inks:  Crushed Curry, Island Indigo  Accessories:  2-1/2″ Circle punch, Circles Framelits, Window Frames Collection Framelits, Regals Candy Dots (Island Indigo), Stampin’ Dimensionals

Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. Love this card, Brian–especially the way you used, “Work of Art”. Although your cover-up job with the candy dots is quite marvy all by itself. Have a great Sunday!

  2. I like this card ! The color combination is new to me and it`s different . I also like the center focus with the ink splotch . Now I will go stare at my ink splotch stamped image and see what I can come up with ….the layering of images is very “artsy” Last ,but not least ….yay for candy dots !!.

  3. Brian I do love this card. I however can not figure out the stamp set What’s Your Type. For some reason my mind does not see any way to creativity create any letters from the alphabet. I see so many other creative usages of the stamp set. That is what I love about Stampin up. Have a blessed day.

  4. Simple and cool! I like the three abstract shapes behind the greeting. It adds such a nice touch.

  5. Oh, Brian, your humor is such a great start to my day. Love the colors of the card and those three candy dots are perfect!!

  6. You always make me laugh! Love this color combo!

  7. I find the combo of blue and yellow to be very relaxing. The card is just gorgeous and I’m happy to know that I’m not the only one that uses “cover ups” sometimes. LOL

  8. Love the confession about the candy dots.
I always say that mistakes are just reasons for embellishments!

  9. Love it, love it, love it! Another out of the park winner! Great color combinations, creative design, and sweet honesty. I’m taking another look at the window frameletts. It works very well as a layering component. Thanks again for the great inspirations.

This is a very artistic, kind of abstract card. Looks like one of those works of art in a modern art museum. When it comes to this stamp set, “What’s Your Type”, all I see are lines and solid images that I have no idea what to do with. This set requires a designer’s eye, it also really requires vision to make something this cool out of this very weird images. Once again Brian, you were able to create a really fabulous card with a stamp set that maybe not everybody can identify with. Just like that BRAIN card, you really did a great job with that stamp and you did a great job with this other stamps, thank you for sharing your amazing BRAIN with us, Brian. 😉

  13. Brian, I love the clean and simple approach to card making that you have! I am a demonstrator also, and love that you are so willing to share your talent!

  14. Crushed Curry and Island Indigo look so happy together, and I was so excited you presented them on a card starring What’s My Type, (one of my New Most Favorite sets), that I went in and made a batch of Rice Krispy Treats to celebrate. Thanks, Brian.

  15. Obviously, I’m going to have to invest in the candy dots for I am the queen of the errant ink spot! Love the color combo as well
