I do love a good challenge. This week’s Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge required a lot of purposeful plans and smart strategies. Baked Brown Sugar, Pacific Point and So Saffron – definitely a combination I would have never derived on my own. I did it, though, and here’s my card:
And here’s the challenge banner for this week’s PPA Challenge:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders:
- Working with the Colors. I like these colors in any paired combination, but the three together were really hard for me to imagine. I decided I would create a card that’s mostly Baked Brown Sugar and So Saffron with a touch of Pacific Point. I started by cutting into a striped bag from the Celebration Basic Kit and built on that, alternating on between Whisper White, Baked Brown Sugar and So Saffron until the pop of blue in the center.
- Gettin’ Snippy. The pop of blue in the center of this card is brought to you today by my incredible snipping abilities. 🙂 I embossed the image from Starburst Sayings on Baked Brown Sugar and again on Pacific Point. I snipped the letters out of the Pacific Point starburst and glued them the Baked Brown Sugar one. Good news – No need to snip out the middle of the “A” and the middle of the “P”s as they will have the same white center as their new home.

- Stacking the Shapes. The HAPPY letters are mounted on a Baked Brown Sugar starburst – we’ve covered that. Behind the starburst is a So Saffron circle from the Circles Collection Framelits and then a piece of Whisper White that’s cropped with the Deco Labels Collection Framelits. I needed to “ground” the sentiment, so I added two of the large tags from Chalk Talk Framelits in Baked Brown Sugar (the bread-tie ends are centered beneath the layers of other times. Those are layered on top of a framed Celebration Basics Kit bag and then a So Saffron card base.

wow talk about perfectly placed polka dots! great pop of blue!
That works. And it works well. Great job Mr. King!
Your blog came late today Brian. It just wasn’t right to start my morning without a dose of Brian! Great card. : )
I love this card! You really rocked these colors!
Pretty snippy with those letter! Fantastic! Great card. 🙂
Hi, I thought something happened to you when I didn’t see my morning email awaiting me from you!! Great card….but what else is new!! 🙂
LOVE how you used the colors, Brian. The blue “HAPPY” feels like a neon sign. Love it!
I love how you have a slight hint of Pacific Point. It pops!
wondered how you achieved that brown sugar layer–clever, man!
i like the pop of PP. way to go, guy!
Hmmmm, yup, you were a bit late and that was odd, but I’m glad you are here now Brian, as you can plainly see, you have become a integral part of our mornings :0
That color combination is a bit hard to visualize but you did a great job, that splash of blue does the trick, it attracts the eye to that pretty focal point. I think that if you would have done the word HAPPY in any of the other colors, it would have gotten lost.
Hi Brian:
So happy yesterday’s “bump” in the delivery system didn’t continue today! I was in Brian withdrawal yesterday and not reading your blog first thing in the morning just messed up the entire day for me. So – back to normal – Hooray!
Very nice job on today’s card. It’s soft, warm and very inviting. You are by far the King of Snipers for sure. How many pair of scissors do you go through in a year? LOL I find the color combo today to be very soothing and would definitely enjoy both sending and/or receiving this card.
Great job with the colors! The blue really pops off the greeting with that soft background base. Well done!!
Brian, not only is this card beautiful, but you’ve incorporated so many elements I never would have thought of. Your creativity and ingenuity never cease to impress and amaze me. Great job
Wonderful colors for this “happy” card…love it!
