Before I share this week’s project for The Paper Players, I want to thank Joanne James for selecting my circus-themed birthday card as A Cut Above. I love these challenges, but it’s always nice to be recognized. If you want to see which of my cards was selected, click here to see it.
Jaydee is hosting this week’s sketch challenge. Her sketch is clean and simple, straight to the point – that’s right up my alley. With so many options to choose from, my mind went directly to this awesome sentiment from Mingle All the Way. Here’s my card:
And here’s Jaydee’s sketch that inspired my project:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Nordic Noel Designer Series Paper. Don’t you just love this Nordic Noel Designer Series Paper? These angled chevron pieces remind me of holiday pajamas. The pages of this paper are filled with Nordic villages and old-timey images in bright, cherry colors. I think detailed patterns pair best with solid images or panels, so I chose this page to coordinate with the large blocks of solid colors on the rest of this card.
- Color Selection. The color selection for this card was easy. I knew I wanted to frame this sentiment with the Nordic Noel Designer Series Paper. To pick the right colors for the other panels of this card, I referenced my Holiday Catalog Designers Series Swatch Books. So helpful! I would have sworn the red in this was Cherry Cobbler. I pulled out my swatch books, selected the paper and then referenced the colors on the back of the book. If you would like a set of your own, click here.
- Mingle All the Way. I just love this sentiment. I love the script, I love the print, I love the beautifully placed snowflakes. You also know I love white embossing powder. The two of them together – I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. I cropped it with my Circles Collection Framelits and matted it with a white border from my 2-1/2″ Circle Punch. I bordered the rest of the layers on the card with white, as well, to keep the theme alive.
Stamp Sets: Mingle All the Way Papers: Real Red, Whisper White, Garden Green, Nordic Noel Designer Series Paper Inks: Real Red Accessories: 1/2″ Circle punch, Circles Collection Framelits, 2-1/2″ Circle punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals, White Stampin’ Emboss Powder

Congrats on your win, that really was a darling card. And so is this one. I have to remember your layering tip with the same border color. It really does make a difference.
Brian, you have such a good eye! The added green layer was just the right touch. Good job!
Congrats! Always love your borders. The “Mingle All the Way” stamp is great…I used it to stamp the back of the holiday catalogs!
So clean and festive!

Congratulations Brian, this was a totally deserved honor, that card with the little lion standing on the up side down cup cake liner was just cute beyond words.
Now, this card is amazing too, I love the optical illusion of this DSP and your borders, oh!!! your borders are always fabulous. Thank you for sharing.
Congrats Brian, I loved your Zoo Babies card, especially how you used the cupcake builder. Mingle All the Way is one of favorites from the Holiday catalog and your card is beautiful.. It makes me want to start planning for the holidays. Super job
Another great card this week Brian! I love this ‘Mingle All the Way’ stamp and it looks great in this festive Nordic colour combination. Interesting use of a section of DSP for the skinny banner too. Great use of this week’s sketch – thanks for joining us over at The Paper Players this week.
Love your card! Simplicity with great impact.
Beautiful clean and simple card. I always feel like you make it so easy with your cards, for me to “borrow” your ideas, and then use many of the papers, sentiments, framelits, etc. of my own, to put my twist on them. Thanks for helping me “get started” every day!
Another great card this week! I love the new products you used for this card..wow that paper is awesome! Your choice to emboss the sentiment in white is perfect. Love it! Thanks for playing along at The Paper Players this week!

Great, simple card once again, Brian! Love the paper and that great sentiment, which looks terrific heat embossed. Thanks as always for being such a dedicated “Player”!
Clean and classic! Your white matting really makes a fantastic contrast with the green and red. It’s always a pleasure to see your cards at The Paper Players.
