Birthday Blossoms for PPA288

Amy Lazzell created a fun sketch for us this week at Pals Paper Arts.   I immediately knew I wanted to showcase one of the beautiful prints from one of this year’s amazing Sale-a-Bration selections – Wildflower Fields Designer Series Paper.  I pulled the colors from this paper to make this sweet card that’s perfect for almost any celebration.  Here’s my card:

And here’s the banner for Amy’s challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Busy Patterns.  This paper sure is pretty – but with so many colors and detailed flowers, it can be busy, busy, busy.  To make sure the print didn’t take over the entire card, I selected a simple sentiment and bordered it with a large circle (this adds distance between the sentiment and the printed paper).  I also kept my “vertical band” solid so as to not add-to the pattern.Birthday Blossoms, Wildflower Fields Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, PPA288
  • Quick Embellishment.  I love this sentiment from Birthday Blossoms, a stamp set in Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Annual Catalog.  It’s not perfectly centered, so I tucked it into the bottom corner of the circle punch when I punched it out.  OK, so I know that circles don’t have corners, Smarty Pants, but you know what I was saying, right?  To further balance it all out, I added a Calypso Coral flower with my Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack (that’s necessary to have!) and a Pearl Basic Jewel.  This is a perfect accent for this sentiment and pairs perfectly with this paper!

  • Spring Color Combination.  Blackberry Bliss is one of the 2014-2016 In Colors that will be going away at the end of May (unless Stampin’ Up! surprises us with a color refresh and includes this luscious, deep purple in the permanent collection of colors).  Hello Honey and Lost Lagoon (also 2014-2016 In Colors) are included in the background of this paper, too, but I pulled Blackberry Bliss and Calypso Coral (a former In Color that transitioned into a Subtles color) for the rest of my card.  If you like to combination of colors, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! 1. I love how you used the larger calypso coral borders. It makes that color pop. And the combination of the blackberry and coral is awesome! The bitty flower really works. I love it!

  2. Thank you so much Brian for including a breakdown photo at the end, I love the look of the card and would be struggling to figure out the different circle layer sizes!

  3. Love all those layers, Brian! The DSP certainly takes the spotlight, as you intended, and is gorgeous with all the other elements. The itty bitty flower is the sweetest addition to the sentiment too! Takes for sharing at the PPA this week.
