This week’s Global Design Project Color Challenge includes three colors that, at first pass, seem to be Fall-themed colors – Tangelo Twist, Bermuda Bay and Early Espresso. I couldn’t reach back into my Fall leaves to create a card (Spring has sprung in Atlanta!), so I took a different approach to showcase this lovely color combination. Here’s my card for this week’s GDP029:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:
- Mystery Stamps. So, do you know which stamp sets I used to create this fun card? I used one for the background and one for the sentiment. I’m not going to make you guess – I’m just going to tell you. Unless you really wanted to guess – I don’t want to steal all the joy out of our game. Go ahead – put your hand over your screen and take a guess…now, I’ll tell you. I used the leaves pattern from Sheltering Tree to create the colorful patterns that makeup the background of this card and the sentiment from Party Pants, one of the Sale-a-Bration items that you can earn with a $50 purchase (promotion ends March 31). Here’s a closer look at both:
- Order to Everything. To create a light, airy background pattern on this card, I stamped off each of the colors once on scrap paper before stamping onto the cardstock. I started with the Bermuda Bay ink in the middle. Once I completed my layer of Bermuda Bay, I stamped the Tangelo area, allowing the image to stamp off the edge before stamping a couple of times with a full coverage of ink along the edges. I repeated that process for the Early Espresso image. I love that the colors just blend into each other to create one background of color. So many options for creating gorgeous backgrounds, don’t you think?
- Layers. You love when I share layer sizes with you, so I thought I’d be super-giving today. Here’s a graphic that shows the measurements of the simple layers I used on this card:
Stamp Sets: Sheltering Tree, Party Pants Papers: Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Whisper White Inks: Tangelo Twist, Bermuda Bay, Early Espresso Accessories: 2″ Circle punch, 1-3/4″ Circle punch, 1-3/8″ Circle punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the Global Design Project site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Brian
How clever to use sheltering tree this way! Great way of using the colours it looks fantastic. TFS
Thanks, Kylie! The colors really popped when they were color blocked like this.
Your card looks great Brian, such a clever way to showcase an unusual color combination!
Thanks, Dawn. I had fun with it.
I was challenging myself to figure out what stamp you used for the background and I did NOT guess correctly. You are a clever guy! Love the card.
Gotcha! Glad you like it, Dianne! <3
I love the background, and the way you made the sentiment pop.
Thanks, Linda. Glad you like it.
You, sir, are a genius!
*blushing. Thanks, Annie.
Brilliant idea and lovely mix of color. Great “pointillism” technique!
Pointillism. That’s what I was going for, Mary. 🙂 Thanks!
This is so cute!
Thanks! Glad you like it, Karen.
Brilliant! That’s you! I’ve been stalking your blog for quite a while and love your creations. But just had to speak up today. I knew the sentiment but never guessed the background. Thank you for your art.
Thanks for the kind comment, Sharon! I hope you’ll leave more – glad to have you stopping by.
Brian King – excellent alternative use of stamp set. The colours look awesome on this card. Thanks mate!
Thanks so much, Bruno!
We all need that little note card once in a while and this card fits the bill perfectly. Sometimes one wants to drop a note to a friend for no reason at all except to let them know you are thinking about them and this is the absolute perfect card to accomplish that end.
Thanks for sharing Brian. Your talents are never ending!
I know how much you love a “just because” card, Grace. I think of you every time I make one.
I love how you used the Sheltering Tree stamp to make an unusual but pretty card. I’ll have to CASE it for sure. Have a great day!
Case away, HJ! Thanks!
AWESOME card, Brian!! I love that you used the leaves stamp from Sheltering Tree to create your background. What a great way to stretch a stamp set!!
Thanks so much, Melissa! One day I’ll use these leaves as leaves. 🙂
Creative Brian! This card is so pretty and I did not guess the stamp set. Colors are perfect. Very clever B K!
Fooled you, Di! Glad you like it. <3
Brilliant use of the tree!! This is fabulous!
Thanks, Michelle!
Oh wow Brian! Love the clean simplicity of this card! Just gorgeous!
Thanks so much, Deb!
Oh, my, goodness!!! I was wondering where those dots came from! You are just too clever Mr King!
Thanks, Paula! Glad you like it.
Another great card Brian! Just love seeing alternatives to immediately obvious uses for a stamp to get the most out of them.
Thanks, Emma! I love to use stamps in a way that you might not immediately anticipate. This was a fun card to make.
The three color back ground of card is very intriguing. The “pointillism” technique you use is very effective. IMHO, the “pointillism” technique seems similar to bokeh. Crumb Cake is in this card which is effective. I have to resit trying include Crumb Cake too often. Great card!
Nothing wrong with a bunch of Crumb Cake. It’s always appropriate. 🙂 Thanks, Brent.
YOU my friend are amazing. Awesome card, great technique too. xo
Thanks, Louise!
Love this Brian! Great alternate use for this stamp set. But fess up – have you used up all your DSP?
Haha! I have LOADS of DSP still to use – just none with these three colors. Thanks, Gail. 🙂
Love the background on this – may be a stamp set I need to get oops!
It’s a great set, Fiona! You should definitely get it!
Initially, I thought you used the top of a new pencil eraser to get the colors so perfect and then I read your description…great idea with the tree stamp. I’m intrigued by your style of stamping and impressed every time I see one of your cards.
I like the way the stamped off image worked and a great technique for a background!
You are so smart with that background!
