A Happy Celebration with FabFri

For the FabFriday Color Challenge, which debuts today, Mindy Backes chose FOUR colors that work well together.  While it can be quite a challenge to pair four colors (when three colors are so easy to balance), I enjoyed playing with these colors.  That’s why they call it a challenge, right?  🙂  I decided to showcase all four of these colors side by side using the “swoosh” from Stampin’ Up!’s Happy Celebrations photopolymer stamp set.  Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Happy Celebrations.  Not only does it offer some beautifully scripted and printed sentiments that can be used for almost any needed sentiment, but the words are MUCH bigger than you’d expect.  Even though the printed catalog shows the stamps at their actual size, I wasn’t expecting these words to be so big.  I just love this set (can you tell?), so I was anxious to use it.  With a Trees Theme, I thought “celebrate new beginnings” was a nice ode to spring and to new adventures in life.  Here’s a peek at the new photopolymer set (as always, you can click on the picture to see the set in my online store):

  • Completing the Thought.  I was only going to use the word “celebrate” on the front of this card  – I love that beautiful script.  I also like complete sentences or (at the very least) complete thoughts.  That’s why you’ve never seen me make a card that just says “dream” on it – is that a command or a suggestion or just a random word?  Anyway, at last minute (before gluing it all down), I decided to add “let’s” to the top corner of the sentiment.  It was a risk (I’m such an avid risk-taker!) but I liked it more.  To add a little balance to the rest of the white space above the sentiment, I added a Bermuda Bay Enamel Shapes star.
  • Balancing the Four Colors.  Calypso Coral, Bermuda Bay and Rich Razzleberry all have a cheery brightness to them.  Peekaboo Peach is soft and sweet with not a lot of bright tones.  Given that, I chose to alternate my “swooshes” with Peekaboo Peach and one of the bright colors followed by Peekaboo Peach and another bright color.  The consistent use of Peekaboo Peach helps to pull the other colors together.  They are all separated from the Bermuda Bay base with a Whisper White panel of cardstock.

  13. Brian what a “fab” card for this challenge. I love how you’ve created such a happy beautiful mix with these colours and how you used peek-a-boo peach to bring them all together. I also like the addition of the word “Lets” to your sentiment as it really does make it a much friendlier card. And finally, thanks for pointing out the size of the sentiments in this stamp set. I passed it by but now I’m re-thinking what a great set it is.
