A World of Thanks for FabFriday

It’s time for another great FabFriday challenge!  Mindy Backes has picked four soft, sweet colors for this challenge – Calypso Coral, Peekaboo Peach, So Saffron and Mint Macaron.  What a beautiful palette!  I had a lot of fun with a painting technique that helped me keep these colors soft.  Here’s my card:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Thank You Stamp Sets.  You might not have noticed (because I stealthily concealed it), but this stamp set combines three stamp sets on one card – and all of them are filled with thanks.  Can you name all three?  The background, filled with lots of great thank you’s in a variety of languages, is stamped with the A World of Thanks background stamp – that’s the obvious one.  The “THANKS” was masked from “THANKS for being a great friend” from the Window Shopping stamp set.  I added tape over the “for being a great friend” part of the stamp, inked the stamp with Mint Macaron, removed the tape and then stamped the word “THANKS.”  I added “You’re the best” from All Things Thanks in Peekaboo Peach.  Yay!   A World of Thanks, Window Shopping, All Things Thanks, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, thank you card
  • Coloring the Background Stamp.  How, oh, how do I pull together all of these soft, sweet colors?  I used my Stampin’ Write Markers to paint directly on the background stamp, gave the stamp a big, breathy huff and stamped down on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock.  I tried this a couple of different ways – here’s what worked best for me.
    • Hold the stamp at an angle so you can see the shine when ink is added to the rubber on the back of the stamp.
    • Start with the lightest color (I started with So Saffron) and roughly color on the stamp.  I didn’t want bold lines of color, so I painted roughly in areas of the image.
    • Pick up where you left off with the next lightest color (that’s Peekaboo Peach on this card).  Allow the colors to blend a bit (allow the darker color to makes its way into the lighter color so you don’t stain your lighter pen).
    • So forth and so on.
    • Huff on the stamp to moisten the ink that may have dried while you were busy painting.
    • Enjoy.  You’re awesome!
  • A Little Flower.  After the sentiments were stamped, I needed a little something to balance things out on the panel.  I grabbed a Calypso Coral scrap piece of Cupcakes & Carousels Designer Series Paper.  I fed it into my Tree Builder Punch and punched the cute, little flower.  I snipped each indention toward the center to add a little depth to the flower and then topped it with a small Pearl Basic Jewel accent.  After I was done, I realized the flower “dotted the i” in “merci”.  Totally not planned, but it’s a fun mistake.A World of Thanks, Window Shopping, All Things Thanks, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, thank you card
