Cupcakes & Carousels for GDP

Sometimes the paper does all the work – and there’s nothing wrong with that.  This is about making beautiful cards, not laboring for hours to make beautiful cards.  🙂  When I sat down to tackle this week’s Amusement Park-themed Global Design Project challenge, I knew I wanted to showcase the Cupcakes & Carousels Designer Series Paper Stack – so I did just that.  Here’s my simple, layered card:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Cupcakes and Carousels.  I don’t normally gravitate toward papers that are “vintage” in design – I like crisp and clean designs.  There’s something pretty spectacular about this pack of papers, though.  The colors are beautiful together, and I love the combination of Bermuda Bay and So Saffon in the two pages I’ve showcased in this card.  The page with the Bermuda Bay base creates a beautiful, bold frame around the page with the Very Vanilla base.  These carousel horses are gorgeous.  I’ve created this graphic to showcase the colors in this amazing pack of papers – what a beautiful collection of colors:Cupcakes and Carousels Designer Series Paper Stack, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Keeping with Simple.  Do you remember the old commercials for Rice Krispies Treats where the Mom powders flour on her face before carrying a tray of treats into the family?  That’s what this paper does for me on this card – if you are an avid stamper, you might know that I didn’t do a lot of stamping on this card, but if you aren’t a stamper, then you will probably think I spent a lot of time stamping these carousel horses all over the main panel of this card.  Why make it harder than it needs to be?  Just get some ink on your fingers and hand this card to someone you love.
  • Unique Color Combination.  I would normally pair Bermuda Bay with other bright colors.  If I were to pair this aqua blue with a yellow, it would likely be Daffodil Delight or Crushed Curry.  Never would I think to pair it with the soft and sweet So Saffron.  I’m thankful that some amazing designer at Stampin’ Up! thought to pair them for me.  🙂  If you like this color combination as much as I do, please save this:Stampin' Up! 1. Adoring this sweet card!!! It is just beautiful!!!

  2. Total sweetness. Perfect for the amusement park theme!

  3. Now that’s a “bring back wonderful memories” card if there ever was one. As a child I rode many carousels and when my girls were children I made sure they got the same privilege. I lived in CT where the carousel museum is located and there are several “historical” carousels still in operation in Hartford and other towns. Thanks for bringing back those great memories and for sharing your gorgeous card Brian.
