Tags & Trimmings for GDP109

Thank you to those of you who played along with my CASE the Designer Challenge last week – what a great honor to look through all the wonderful cards you made that were inspired by my simple card.  It’s always wonderful to read your kind words and enjoy your amazing projects.  If you’d like to look through the projects, you can see them here.  Thanks!

This week’s color challenge for the Global Design Project are Gold, Basic Black and Old Olive.  What fun!  I was excited to play with these colors and knew which papers I’d reach for first.  🙂  Here’s my card:

Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Gold, Basic Black, Old OliveTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Merry Little Christmas Designer Series Paper.  Today’s card features two Old Olive and Whisper White patterns from the Merry Little Christmas Designer Series Paper pack.  I love these patterns!  While I’ve mostly shared the black-and-white patterns, these green-and-white pages really jump out at me.  I cut and moved and placed them until they were positioned where I wanted them.  I had a lot of fun with these pages.  Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in this great pack of papers:Merry Little Christmas, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • A Little Shine.  There are so many great ways to add shimmer and shine to your Stampin’ Up! projects – and there are lots of great options for gold.  There’s gold foil, glimmer paper, enamel shapes, embossing powders, papers with gold foil…must I go on?  Well, I guess I should go on since I haven’t yet named washi tape.  It was the Year of Cheer Specialty Washi Tape that reached out to me.  I added three stripes of this super-thin strip of gold foil washi tape to the Basic Black panel – what a fun accent!  Here’s a look at this gorgeous pack of washi tapes:

  1. I love the layers!! Such a striking card! I could not figure out where the gold stripes came from… And then I scrolled down! I have that washi tape and I have not used it! What is wrong with me? LOL

    • You should definitely pull out that washi tape. I don’t typically reach for washi tape, but I love the metallic look and different shapes in this pack. Thanks for the sweet comments, Carrie!

  2. Beautiful card with delightful layout. The gold washi is the pièce de résistance

  3. Great job with that washi tape and the layout!!!

  4. Brian,
A while back you posted about using borders and sizes for different looks. Maybe you would do that again?
    Love every card you do.

    • Thank you so much for your comment, Terry. It’s always nice to hear from you. I posted some suggestions for border sizes in my newsletter a month or two ago. I’ll continue to play with different sizes and post them here. Thanks.

  5. The gold accents really make your card pop!

  6. Love that DSP! AND one of my truest and most favorite sayings of them all looks just gorgeous on this card. IF I had young children I would frame this card and put it in their room hoping that if they saw and read it enough that particular truth might embed itself into their little brains. What a wonderful world we would have. Truly inspiring.

    • Thanks so much for these wonderful comments, Grace. I, too, love this sentiment and the idea that everyone needs to know these words. Thanks for your kind words.

  7. Beautiful card Brian, the layers and mix of patterns works so well. I really think the subtle way you incorporated the gold makes it stand out even more. Great job

  8. Love this beautiful card, Brian. All the layers of DSP and the washi tape make it perfect. Great inspiration for me. I have also added the washi tape to my “want” list. Hope your day was great.

  9. Love the layering and the sentiment is awesome!

    • Thanks so much, Katrina! I’ve loved this sentiment from the moment I saw this catalog. It’s a great statement that’s beautifully scripted. Can’t go wrong with that! 🙂

  10. Simple but lovely, nice work Brian! Love the sentiment.
