Seasonal Chums for CTS245

Before I share today’s card, I want to thank the design team over at CAS(E) This Sketch for selecting my card from last week’s challenge as a CTS Favorite.  If you missed my Snowflake Sentiments card, you can see it here.  I love the inspiration from the CTS challenges, but it’s also nice to be recognized by the team.  Thanks!

Today I’m sharing a card I designed for this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge – and this is a fun one, too!  The sketch involves three elements and a sentiment!  I went right to work and made this card:

Seasonal Chums, Hearts Come Home, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingAnd here’s the sketch for this week’s challenge:

CTS245Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Seasonal Chums.  How cute is this snowman?  I don’t want you to have to work too hard, so I’m happy to answer that question for you – he’s ADORABLE!  While this snowman (there’s a reindeer and jack-o-lantern in the set too!) is designed as a two-sided tag, each image can be showcased individually, too.  I stamped him with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored him with an a variety of Stampin’ Blends alcohol marker (more on that later).  I just adore this set – the characters are perfect for any Fall holiday card or gift bag.  Even the two snowflakes on this card were cropped with the dies that accompany this set.  Love them!  Here’s a look at this fun set and coordinating dies:

  • Stampin’ Blends – November 1.  I’m so excited about Stampin’ Up!’s release of a new set of alcohol markers – they will be available to customers starting November 1.  I couldn’t be more excited – I’ve used these Stampin’ Blends on so many projects since I first received them!  The alcohol markers (offered in a dark and light shade of select colors) are so easy to use – they give such a uniform wash of color (with one marker) or beautiful depth and texture (with more than one color).  Stampin' Blends, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingWith nestable, press-fit lids, these markers are designed to stay sealed so the markers stay inky long-term.  I used light and dark shades of the Cherry Cobbler, Pool Party, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie and Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends to add these solid colors to this guy.  SO easy!  Here’s a closeup of the snowman:  Seasonal Chums, Hearts Come Home, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingTo create the partial circle behind the snowman, I cropped a circle with Layering Circle Framelits on a scrap piece of paper and placed it over this Whisper White panel.  I inked a Stampin’ Sponge with Soft Sky and ran it in circles inside the circle.  Such a simple and easy way to add a little color to this card.
  • Naturally Eclectic.  While Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper is decidedly NOT a Christmas collection of papers, this page of Soft Sky works beautifully on this snowy card.  The snowflakes are cropped with the same paper for added coordination (but also because I couldn’t replicate the exact color with cardstock (this color-washed paper is somewhere between Night of Navy and Soft Sky).  Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in this awesome pack of papers:Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!During October, Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper is one of many papers that’s part of Stampin’ Up!’s “Buy 3, Get 1 Free” Promotion.  To see all of the papers in this promotion, please click here or on the image below: Buy 3, Get 1 Free Designer Series Paper Sale

  2. I love the snowman! All of the pieces make more for a perfect card.

    • Thanks, Jackie! That’s what I love so much about these challenges. I would have never completed the card with those other elements without the CTS sketch. I appreciate your comments.

  3. Your snowman is such a dapper dude. I love the touches of “Blends” and sweet snowflakes. This is the first time I noticed the little bunny by his feet!

  4. So cute ! Colors are perfect and I love that bunny that Mary brought to my attention !!

  6. Oh, what a sweet scene! Fabulous take on the sketch!

  7. O.K. Brian – the snowman is sweet and your take on the sketch is fabulous but THE BUNNY steals the card! I really love the way you colored the snowman and bunny with the new markers and the snowflakes were not only a perfect addition to the card but using the soft sky for the snowflakes could not have been a more perfect color choice. I just love this one.

  8. Love your snowman! And I love Pool and Red together. Yiu created a beautiful background, too!

  9. This card is adorable and practically shouts winter holidays are upon us. I’ll definitely be using your tip on adding color . Great job Brian

    • Thanks so much, Robbye! It was an easy card to make because (as you know) it’s really getting cold here in Atlanta. Maybe not snowman cold, but cold. 🙂

Great minds think alike. I thought the background mat paper would look great as snow and add a few snowflakes and the snowman and I would have an adorable card. Of course yours took it to new heights with the sponging of the blue around the snowman which I was thinking of trying but worried I would screw it up. I had to smile as people see the bunny – for some odd reason I saw the bunny first before the snowman when I saw it in the catalog. I even remarked what no snowman this time? Other members of our card club looked at me like I had lost my mind when they pointed to it. I laughed about it was nice they added the snowman for the bunny to hide him. Ok, now I need to focus on something else for the swap since the countdown is on! I will be CASEing your idea though. So soft and pretty!
