For this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge, I was excited to pull out my Swirly Snowflake Thinlits Dies to make a sweet card with a sweet color combination. Rose Red, Island Indigo and So Saffron are a perfect trio, don’t you think? The layers in these dies work together beautifully – I’ll share so tips for lining them up perfectly later in the post. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:
- Retiring. As you know, Stampin’ Up! released the list of items that will be not be carried forward to future catalogs. To see the full list of all items being retired (these items are only offered on a while-supplies-last basis), click on the banner below:
While some supplies are being carried forward, bundled savings for all of these products will end when the Holiday Catalog ends (the 10% savings for buying both will be retired even if the stamp set and dies/punch carry forward). Both of the items I used on this card are being retired – and both are worth a second look if you haven’t picked them up. Here’s a look at the Snowflake Sentiments Bundle that house the Swirly Snowflakes Thinlits Dies:Here’s the Cheers to the Year stamp set – great set for all kinds of occasions:
- Layering the Swirly. I love the simplicity of this CAS(E) This Sketch layout. The scalloped border along the base of the layout had me reaching for my Swirly Snowflakes Thinlits Dies. I used the Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets to give my intricate dies the glue they needed to lay right down on the Island Indigo panel.
These are so easy to use – two thin sheets with tiny dots of glue between. Here’s how to use them:
- Peel back one of the sheets to expose the layer of adhesive dots.
- Press the sheet of cardstock to the adhesive dots.
- Crop the cardstock with the die.
- Brush out all the pieces you don’t want and poke the rest with a piercing tool.
- Peel off the layer of paper from the back of the cropped paper to expose the adhesive dots.
- Carefully align and press down.
- Refreshing Colors. Since this is a New Year’s card with an otherwise-Christmas die, I wanted to stay far away from Christmas colors. I adore this combination Island Indigo, Rose Red and So Saffron – don’t you? If you like this combination as much as I do, please save this:

Stamp Sets: Cheers to the Year Papers: Rose Red, Island Indigo, So Saffron, Whisper White, Thick Whisper White Inks: Archival Basic Black Accessories: Swirly Snowflakes Thinlits Dies, Regals Epoxy Shapes, Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the CAS(E) This Sketch site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!

The die cut is so stunning and the color mix so fresh. The pop of Rose Red dots is the perfect touch.
Thanks, Mary! These colors really give these dies a new look, don’t you think? Always love to hear your thoughts. <3
I adore this color combo. I’m sure I’ll be using it soon.
Thanks, Candy! The red and yellow really brightened up the Island Indigo. Fun to play with.
wow on the colors with the snowflakes..they so pop!
Thanks, Windy! I was pleasantly surprised with how wonderful they were together. Glad you like it!
Brian,
It’s just the snowflake bundle that is retiring, not the separate items in it… correct?
That’s correct – it appears that the Snowflake Sentiments BUNDLE is retiring while the stamp set and dies may be sold individually in the future.
You always know the perfect detail that ties your creation together in perfect balance of color and design. Those little red dots are the bow on the package. Perfect. Your color choice is refreshing and original. Love this card.
Thanks, Robyn! I’m so glad you appreciate the details – they are often the most important part of a card. <3
Those dies are proving to be much more versatile than I had first imagined. I love your color palette, the So Saffron is such a buttery color it is making the Rose Red and Island Indigo really pop. Great job Brian
Thanks so much, Robbye! I really enjoyed playing with this mix of colors. Always so rewarding when you find a combo that works. <3
Oh, this is so pretty! Wonderful take on the sketch!
Thanks, Leigh! It’s a great sketch – my card is a little bit off from it, but it’s definitely inspired by it. Glad you like it.
