Today we kick off my second week as a Design Team Member for CAS(E) This Sketch. It’s still so surreal for me. I hemmed-and-hawed about how I could create a project with this week’s sketch – a frame with flowers hanging off of it – what could I use? I decided to just make a card with the gorgeous cake from the Cake Soirée Bundle when it hit me! This IS my card for the challenge! Yay! Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge, a fun sketch by Leigh Penner, that inspired my card:
- Sweet Soirée Suite. How gorgeous is the two-layered cake on this card? The image is so delicate and beautiful – and there are so many ways to combine colors for a variety of looks. I stamped the solid base with Marina Mist (stamped off once) and stamped the detailed outline with Dapper Denim. Here’s a look at the Cake Soirée Bundle:
This pink and white pattern gives a perfect backdrop for the beautiful, blue cake. Here’s a look at the gorgeous papers in the Sweet Soirée Specialty Designer Series Paper: There are so many beautifully coordinated items in this product suite – to see all of the items in the Sweet Soirée Suite, click on the picture below:
- Stamping and Layering. With the beautiful foundation of the cake (cropped with the coordinating Sweet Cake Framelits Dies), I tried my hand at a little flower-arranging. I cropped a couple of sprigs and some flowers/leaves from the set. I placed the items on the corner of the cake to find a balance I wanted. Once I determined how I wanted the items layered, I pulled them away and started gluing. Careful! Here’s a closer view of my finished cake:
- Sweet Colors. There are three shades of pink/red in the Sweet Soirée Specialty Designer Series Paper – Flirty Flamingo, Powder Pink and Calypso Coral. The color of this GORGEOUS page that serves as the background for my card is somewhere between these three colors (in my professional opinion), so all three work well with it. I love this combination of blues with Flirty Flamingo – I don’t often use Marina Mist. If you like it as much as I do, please save this for future inspiration:
Bundles: Cake Soirée Bundle Stamp Sets: Cake Soirée, Celebration Time Papers: Sweet Soirée Specialty Designer Series Paper, Marina Mist, Dapper Denim, Thick Whisper White, Pear Pizzazz, Flirty Flamingo Inks: Flirty Flamingo, Marina Mist, Dapper Denim, Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizzazz, Archival Basic Black Accessories: Sweet Cake Framelits Dies, Classic Label punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the CAS(E) This Sketch site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Brian
My Favorite Things
Over the weekend, I shared my favorite things from Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Occasions Catalog and 2018 Sale-a-Bration brochure. If you missed them, please take a peek – hoping my “picks” will help you decide which items you have to have from these new books – and there are a lot of things you need. 🙂
Join Me for a Spring Event in Atlanta!
In April, Stampin’ Up! is hosting OnStage Local events for demonstrators all over the world. One of the local events will be local to me – here in Atlanta, Georgia! Along with some of my amazing team members, I’ll be hosting a Spring stamping event the day before OnStage. This event – still unnamed and not-yet-fully-planned – will be Friday, April 7 at Cobb Galleria Centre. I’d love for you to join us!
Registration for the Spring Event will be open to a limited number of demonstrators – and the day will be FILLED with fun. I can promise some inspiring presentations, super-fun games, a high-quality swap and make-and-takes like nothing you’ve ever seen. The event will mirror the World Card Making Day events we’ve hosted the last five years.
If you’d like to see some of my write-ups about past events to gauge your excitement about this event, please click on one of the below links:
If you have participated in my events before, I’d LOVE for you to leave comments below about how much fun you had. I’d ALSO love for you to share this message with your friends and team members to encourage them to join us, too!
EMAIL ME HERE if you would like to be included on my emails as we fine-tune this fun event.
Soft and pretty. The blue on blue for the cake is luscious!
Thanks, Mary! I chose Marina Mist because it’s so beautifully showcased in the Specialty Designer Series Paper – and then didn’t use paper with the blues in it. So glad you liked it! <3
Beautiful card. I will have to go play in the challenge.
Thanks so much, Windy! It’s a fun, versatile sketch – can’t wait to see what you make!
Love, love, love this one Brian. I checked out the site and all the creations were lovely. Your color combination couldn’t have been more perfect! Great job as always!
Thanks so much, my friend. I’m so glad you like my card – the other cards are beautiful, so I’m glad you popped over to take a look. <3
Great job nailing this challenge. I love your interpretation. I’m in love with the Sweet Soirée dsp, it’s foiled and shiny I can’t help it. You do these challenges so well.
Thanks for the sweet comment, Robbye! The shiny papers are GORGEOUS! So glad you like the card and the papers. <3
This is a beautiful card!
🙂 Thanks so much, Rene! <3
Perfection.
Awww…thanks. <3
That is a beautiful card! The colors are so pretty together. Again, an elegant but simple card.
Thanks so much, Elizabeth! I don’t use Marina Mist a lot, but I’m really drawn to it in this stack of papers. Appreciate your comment!
Lovely card. Just what I need for a special lady.
I want to thank you! My sample bundle just arrived, and I feel as though Christmas has come again. The sample books for the dsp are such an indispensable part of my tools, and I appreciate all the work that goes in to their production. Everything else…fun, fun, fun!
Thanks so much for this awesome comment, Kathy! I appreciate that you buy the books and shares from me and am THRILLED to know that you really like them and that they benefit your business. <3 Thanks for the incredible testimony - hope everyone reads this. 🙂
The cake is the perfect “frame”! Beautifully done!
Thanks so much, Linda! It’s a fun sketch – and this cake gave me just what I wanted. <3
Wow, this is stunning Brian – nailed it!!
Thanks so much, Louise! I don’t do “soft and sweet” quite like you, but I try. <3
Wonderful take on the sketch, Brian! I love how you subbed the cake for the ornate frame. Genius!
Thanks so much, Donna! I appreciate your kind words. Loved this challenge.
This is so pretty! Fabulous take on the sketch!
Thanks so much, Leigh! I loved the inspiration sketch and appreciate your kind comment.
This card made me smile so big when I saw it! It’s brilliant! The flower on the cake…perfection plus, I could totally use a good soirée!
🙂 Thanks, Chrissy! I am no flower arranger, but I had fun with this card. I’m so glad you like it! <3
This is AMAZING!! I love the papers you used and that cake is spectacular. I am thinking I might NEED that set now!!! Great take on the sketch!!
It’s a great set, Nora! I’m not particularly savvy with flower arranging, but I had fun with it. So glad you like it. Thanks for your kind comments!
Hi Brain, I have a question, how did you line up your two cake layers, I agree they look gorgeous like that, I tried to do this, but was having a hard time lining up the two cake layering pieces since they are not photo polymer, any tips would be great.
Hi Tracy, Thanks for your comment! Unless I’m going to crop the image with dies or a punch, I almost always use my Stamp-a-majig when stamping with red rubber stamps (and sometimes with Photopolymer stamps). I’m a stickler for precision when stamping and find that the Stamp-a-majig helps me get everything exactly where I want it. I hope that helps!
