When I sat down to make today’s card for the FabFriday sketch challenge that launches today, I wasn’t prepared for how much I would love it. I don’t dabble in a lot of pinks and purples, so this card was a little out of my comfort zone. I knew there was something magical about the sweet unicorn in A Magical Day, so I started there, and the rest just fell into place. Here’s my card for this FabFriday challenge:
And here’s the banner for the sketch that inspired my card:
- It’s Magic. There’s something wonderful about the Myths & Magic Suite of products in Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Occasions Catalog. The suite is filled with dragons and mermaids and unicorns and knights and wizards. It’s a fantasy-land of myths. I started with the chubby unicorn (but don’t say that in front of him) from the Magical Day stamp set and cropped him with the Magical Mates Framelits. Here’s a look at the fun images and sentiments in this bundle:
I accented the festive unicorn with a “sassy” heart from the Sweet & Sassy Framelits Dies and a panel of iridescent glittered design from the Myths & Magic Specialty Designer Series Paper. Here’s a look at the awesome papers in this collection: If you’d like to see all of the items included in this bundle, click here:
- Two Sale-a-Bration Goodies. I love sentiments that uplift and inspire. On a favorite TV show of mine, one of the adult characters holds the face of an outcast child in his hands and says, “You are exactly who you are supposed to be.” So loving and affirming – I couldn’t love that more! There’s a popular Pinterest meme that gives a funny twist to that concept – “Always be yourself – unless you can be a unicorn. Then always be a unicorn.” You are who you are, and that’s who you are. Be you.I combined sentiments from the two “Level 2” items in Sale-a-Bration (those are the two items that you can redeem with a $100 purchase – Happy Wishes stamp set and the Celebrate You Thinlits Dies. Both are amazing options and work together perfectly here. If you’d like to learn more about how you can earn free products during Sale-a-Bration, click here.
- Sweet Color Combination. I love working with color – and this combination of pink and purple is not a comfortable go-to for me. I had to stretch a little – but that’s always a good thing, right? I went with Pink Pirouette because I could just color his mane and tail with my Stampin’ Write Marker (convenience drove me there): How sweet! If you like this combination of Pink Pirouette, Fresh Fig and Basic Black, please save this:
Bundles: Magical Day Bundle Stamp Sets: Magical Day, Happy Wishes Papers: Myths & Magic Specialty Designer Series Paper, Pink Pirouette, Fresh Fig, Thick Whisper Whisper White Inks: Archival Basic Black, Stampin’ Write Markers (Pink Pirouette) Accessories: Celebrate You Thinlits Dies, Sweet & Sassy Framelits Dies, Magical Mates Framelits Dies, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the FabFriday site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!

Perfect color combo for this sweet card! Happy Friday!
Thanks, Christina! I’m happy with these colors – such fun inspiration. <3
You knocked this out of the park! I will be casing it.
Thanks so much, Karen! Have at it! <3
Truly magical with the unicorn layered over the heart. Love the simplicity and perfect balance.
Awww…thanks, Mary! I’m so glad you like it. <3
This set is everything. I want to marry it. I AM A CHUBBY UNICORN! I will never not have this set.
I’m wasn’t sure why I thought of you when I finished this card, but now I understand it a bit more. <3
All that purple for me? love your card and the mix of the stamp set and die is perfect!
Always think of you when I use purple, Windy! So glad you like my card. 🙂
I love this color combo and will have to give this layering design a go!
Yay! I’m glad you like this combo – I’m quite pleased with it – and hope you play with this sketch. <3
A sweet card with a dreamy color palette!
Thanks, G! I appreciate your comments!
I don’t know a single female that doesn’t love Unicorns! I too love the Fresh Fig with the Pink Pirouette color combo. Super sweet card and I do love the layering. As always, outstanding!
Thanks so much, Grace! You are always so kind with your comments – I appreciate every one. <3
Great color combination, love the unicorn. You have managed to take a stamp set I was positive I could bypass as too juvenile for me and created a card that’s appropriate for not only an angst ridden teenager, but a mature woman. Awesome job Brian though I still think just a touch of Wink a Stella . . .
Thanks, Robbye! It’s quite a fun set – the mermaid and unicorn are far more beautiful and feminine than the dragons and knights. Would love to see what you do with it (knowing there’d be more glitter).
A super adorable card! I am so happy you went outside your norm and chose the pinks!
Thanks so much, Jackie! <3
I’m not a purple person, but I do like that combo.
Go ahead, BE YOU.
🙂 I’m right there with you, Dianne! I’m still surprised by how much I love this combo when neither is “my color”. Thanks!
Great design! One of the best cards I have seen with this set! The color combination is stunning.
Thanks so much! I had fun with this set and getting outside my comfort zone with these colors. <3
Love the combination of Pink Pirouette and Fresh Fig, they’re beautiful together! And the unicorn…he’s so fluffy!
This card just brings a smile to my face? Great job!
Yay! I’m always happy to bring smiles. Thanks so much for the kind comment, Nina! I’m so glad you like the card. <3
The Magical Day set reminds me of a friend who has been exploring and embracing who she is AND loves unicorns & mermaids. Your card captures who she is. You’ve inspired me. Thank you
So sweet! Sounds like this would be perfect for her! <3
Totally adorable!
Thank you, Linda! I don’t always do “adorable” well, but I’m thrilled with how this turned out. <3
I finally have time to make this card today Brian – I just love it so much! 🙂
I’m so glad! Thanks for letting me know. <3
