Welcome to the Pals March 2018 Blog Hop. Our theme this month is “Spring has Sprung”. The Stampin’ Pretty Pals will inspire you with Spring or Spring-related projects. You may see floral, Easter or other general Spring-inspired designs. You may be just starting or hopped over from another Pal. In either case you’ll find the line-up toward the end of my post to help you move along.
For today’s hop, I’ve created a fun picnic basket, filled with surprises that are perfect for a lovely Spring day! Who doesn’t love to pack a delicious lunch and sit in the sun (or under the shade of a tree) for a nice meal outdoors? I used fun elements from Stampin’ Up!’s Picnic with You Bundle to create my basket of goodies and the Myths & Magic Specialty Designer Series Paper to set the mood for this fun picnic. Enjoy!
Here’s my card:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Picnic with You Bundle. The Picnic with You Bundle was part of my first order from Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Occasions Catalog. So many fun images and ways to showcase this basket. You can fill the basket with food or with flowers – let’s hear it for great options! Here’s a look at this super-fun bundle:
It wasn’t until I started playing with the set, though, that I thought it would be fun to put the flower in the wine bottle. Such fun! I masked the leaves on the base of the flower to shorten the length of the flower stems a bit. This “new size” works best with the bottle.
- Setting the Springtime Mood. I knew I didn’t want to stamp my flower stem and sentiment on patterned cardstock, but I wanted to set the mood of a warm, Spring day. What to do, what to do?! I decided to let the background panel of my card set the tone. With a panel of cloudy blue sky from Myths & Magic Specialty Designer Series Paper, I created a backdrop for this focal panel. Here’s a look at this amazing pack of fun papers:
I added layers of grass with the the Picnic Basket Builder Framelits Dies and Emerald Envy cardstock. Love this grassy die! I’ll tell you a secret, though – The grass doesn’t extend beneath the main panel on my card – I just added grass below and on the sides. Who’s got time to crop and layer a bunch of grass that’s going to get covered up?
- Color Combination. It’s tricky to work with green and red without looking like Christmas. This scene, though, is FAR from Christmas in the United States so I was comfortable with the combination. Plus, the Pool Party breaks up the Christmas vibe. If you like this combination, too, please save this:

Such a cute card Brian. Love your idea to put the flower in the wine bottle and thanks for the tip with the grass!
Happy to share, my friend. I don’t drink wine (and don’t think we could drink it in the park), so a flower was my perfect excuse to showcase the bottle. 🙂
I love your imagination! This is a perfect card. Unique and just wonderful!
Awww. Thanks so much, Jackie! My imagination loves you, too! <3
I love the scene you’ve set and the flower is an extra special touch. Always love the details you add. Today my hubby and I are off for a few days to Iceland and hoping to get a glimpse of the Northern Lights. Have a great week.
Enjoy your trip, HJ! Thanks for your sweet comments. <3
So adorable..makes me want to go on a picnic right now!
Thanks so much, Windy! It looks like a picnic-worthy day here, but I think it’s still a little too chilly. You probably have the perfect weather for it in FLA.
Great card – I can almost hear the birds chirping! The DSP is total perfection! This bundle reminds me of Colorforms – I loved playing with them as a kid. Do you remember Colorforms – or are you too young?
I can’t say I’m too young for them, but I don’t know what Colorforms are. I Googled them and still am not sure. 🙂 So glad you like my card, Elisha! Thanks!
Wow! I’m over the moon with the sweet way you displayed the wine bottle. Darling grass and sky!
Yay! Thanks so much, Mary! I really appreciate that. <3
Such a sweet card! I Lovevtge grass and bottle with the flower! Simply adorable
🙂 Thanks so much, my friend. <3
Cute….cute….cute ! The flower in the wine bottle is clever !
Thanks, Sonny! I’m happy you like it. <3
So adorable
Thanks, Rachael! <3
What a cute, springtime card! The grass alone is enough to make me want to buy this bundle!
Worth it! Just sayin’. 🙂 Thanks, Dianne!
Love your use of this set. The flower touch is perfect! I’ve been on the fence with this set but this tips the scale into the buy zone 🙂
Thanks for the annotated picture. Makes it so easy to recreate from a saved image.
Thanks so much, Debbie! I’m glad you like the card and that it increases the chance you’ll buy the bundle. It’s fun. I’m always happy to share! <3
I love this Brian! What a great card!
Thanks so much! I’m thrilled that you like it. <3
Well your card really brightened my day today! We received slightly over 20″ of snow with this nor’easter so thinking about having a picnic in the grass made me smile. Just thinking about spring makes me smile these days as the weather people are talking another storm for next weekend. I’m ready to throw some burgers on the grille and eat out on the deck and your card assured me that it won’t be long until we can do that. LOL Thanks Brian, you brighten my day every day.
Yay! I’m so happy to bring a little sunshine your way, Grace! I can’t imagine how to cope with 20″ of snow, but I know you are prepared for it. <3 You've made MY day with your sweet comments!
Brian, again. . . I love how your mine works! What a fun, loving card.
Thanks, Katrina! I like to play around with stuff until something fun happens. <3
Now, this makes me want to pack a picnic and go to the beach…..I hope very soon we can do just that.
In the mean time, we can all dream about it with this fabulous card, love every detail, especially the little tablecloth hanging on the side of the basket.
So beautiful Brian, thank you for sharing.
XO
Maria.
Thanks so much, Maria! I had lots of fun with this bundle – love this basket. Glad you like it, too! <3
Super and iconically Brian. Love it Mr. King.
Thanks so much, Rae! <3
I usually shy away from a stamp set that contains too many elements… Only you can make this one seem less daunting! Your card “invites” the receiver in…love it!
That’s so sweet. Thanks so much, Sandra! I always love to hear from you. <3
This card is the epitome of picnic. Actually it makes me think of concerts at Chastain.
Thanks, Robbye! The wine bottle really takes us straight to Chastain, right? Glad you like it.
Perfect card! I love a springtime picnic!
Thanks so much, Linda! Always fun to pack and unpack. 🙂
Fun! I just got this bundle and started playing with it. This card sure makes me want summer to get here faster. The fun stamps and coordinating dies will find their way on lots of cards. I can tell that my favorite will be that grass die. Great card, Brian!
Thanks so much for your sweet comment, Debbie! Nothing says “summer” like an outdoor picnic, right? So glad you like the card – you’ll have lots of fun with this bundle. <3
This card is so sweet! I love the grass and cloud filled sky, and that flower in the bottle is the perfect finishing touch! Perfection!
Thanks so much, Nina! I had fun with this set – so glad you hopped with us. <3
Brian, this is so cute! I love it! It is so bright and happy, Brian!
Thanks, Suzie! We had picnic weather a couple of weeks ago, but it’s back to chilly. 🙂 So glad you like the card. I had fun with this bundle. <3
