Spooky Bats for FabFri143

While on Stampin’ Up!’s Annual Incentive Trip to Alaska last week (hard to believe it was a week ago), we received lots of wonderful product from the 2018 Holiday Catalog – as if the vacation on a cruise ship wasn’t good enough. You can read about my Incentive Trip here and see more of the goodies we received here.

Today’s project for the FabFriday sketch challenge showcases the new Spooky Bats punch, available starting September 5 in the new catalog. Here’s my spooky-fun card:

FabFri143Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Punch Me – I’m Dreaming. My simple card features THREE punches I love in the focal image – and one of them is a brand new punch in Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Holiday Catalog! While there are three bats in the Spooky Bats punch, I used two on my card. Here’s a closer look at scene that was created with all three of the punches – can you name them?: Spooky Bats Punch, Labels to Love, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri143How cool are these bats? These guys are flying right in front of the spooky, spooky moon. Here’s a look at the Spooky Bats punch: Spooky Bats Punch, Stampin' Up!, 148014The Crushed Curry moon was punched with a 2-1/4″ Circle punch, and I accented it with two vellum clouds that were punched with the Pretty Label Punch. What a great shape on this punch! I only added glue to the portion of the cloud that’s hidden by the circle so that the ends can lift off the page a little bit.
  • Intentionally Scratchy. Do you recognize the sentiment on this card? You are probably smart to guess that it’s a brand new stamp set that you’ll see in the upcoming Holiday Catalog – but you’d be wrong. Sorry. The sentiment is from the Labels to Love stamp set that debuted in last year’s Holiday Catalog. Here’s a look at Labels to Love: Labels to Love, Stampin' Up! 144967I used a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to color the sentiment in the center of this stamp. The image is intentionally scratchy. To add some additional scratchiness, I roughly colored the sentiment.
  • Spooky Color Combination. When I reached for light gray, black and yellow, I didn’t intend to make a Batman-themed card. It’s kind of where it went, though, isn’t it? If you like this combination of Smoky Slate, Crushed Curry and Basic Black, please save this for future reference:Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Smoky Slate, Crushed Curry, Basic Black

Stamp Sets: Labels to Love  Papers: Basic Black, Smoky Slate, Crushed Curry, Vellum Cardstock  Inks: Basic Black  Accessories: Spooky Bats Punch, 2-1/4″ Circle Punch, Pretty Label Punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to the FabFriday site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

Thanks for stopping by today!

    • Thanks, Dawn! I really wanted to showcase this bat punch and (at first) wasn’t sure how I’d pull in the large circle. That’s when it hit me! <3

  2. This is a fun card, Brian, and you made it so easily using those punches. I know you had fun getting it together. Have a great day!

  3. Batty about this card! That touch of vellum is “sheer” perfection.

  4. Awesome card…love the clouds behind..genius!

  5. On this miserably hot and humid morning your card reminded me of the delightful weather we can expect come fall. It made me smile. I really love this card. Simple yet effective in getting the Halloween spirit across. Of course the combination of Smokey Slate, Crushed Curry and Basic Black couldn’t be any more perfect. Love this one Brian.

  6. Great card today Brian! Love it’s simplicity. Excited for the holiday catalog….when should we start looking for it to arrive?

  10. I love it, love it, love it! It’s punch-tactic! Using the Pretty label punch for clouds? Awesome! Bats? Awesome! The scratchy effect of the stamp? Totally awesome! And I adore this interpretation of the sketch!
The bats are on my holiday catalog A list, and I am looking forward to CASEing this ASAP
    Fantastic card:)

  11. Fun card! Loving the vellum! I ordered these bats….I think they re somewhere in Kansas as we speak!

  12. Unlike some others I’m holding on to summer for as long as I can. The closest I want to get to Fall is watching Coco on Netflix. It’s far too early (at least for me ) to think of Halloween. However this card is so cute if I was still teaching I would most definitely do a version of it to go into the goody bag I always gave the kids in my class. Great job Brian.
