Hooray, Yippee & Cheers

Before I share today’s exciting, color-filled card for CAS(E) This Sketch, I want to wish everyone (but especially you) a Happy Valentine’s Day! Regardless of what’s going on in life, I hope you are able to spend time with or chat with or remember someone you love very much. I wish we could do that everyday, but I think love is a nice thing to celebrate at least once a year.

This week’s sketch sent me in circles, but I think I landed on something I love – cupcakes, cool colors and words of celebration. Here’s my card:

Birthday Cheer, How Sweet It Is Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingAnd here’s the banner for Chrissy Larson’s abstract sketch that inspired my card:

  • Design Notes. Not only did I turn this fun sketch on it’s side, but I let the words follow the squares in Chrissy’s sketch. There’s very little stamping on this super-fun card! In fact, the only stamping is from the fun trio of celebratory words I pulled from Stampin’ Up!’s Birthday Cheer stamp set. Here’s a look at this fun bundle:Birthday Cheer Bundle, Stampin' Up! 150576The cupcakes and the purple confetti backdrop were pulled from the How Sweet It Is Designer Series Paper. I snipped the cupcakes directly from one of the panels of paper (bottom, left in the photo below). Here’s a look at the patterns and colors in How Sweet It Is:How Sweet It Is, Stampin' Up! 148568
  • Tailored Tag Punch. While it doesn’t stand out on the face of the card, I used the Tailored Tag Punch (a go-to favorite of mine) to build a background on this card and honor Chrissy’s sketch. Here’s a look at the punch:Tailored Tag Punch, Stampin' Up!, 145667I positioned two Coastal Cabana shapes on a Pool Party backdrop:Tailored Tag Punch Background, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingAnd then partially covered them up with these sweet cupcakes:Birthday Cheer, How Sweet It Is Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • A Sweet Combination. While Pool Party doesn’t exist in the How Sweet It Is Designer Series Paper, I thought it would offer a slight contrast to the Coastal Cabana panels that I punched with the Tailored Tag Punch. The mix of blues allowed the sentiments (stamped in Gorgeous Grape) and colorful cupcakes to pop. 9. First of all I agree with Sonny – you do deserve a prize or 2 or 3 or 4! I always have a hard time coming up with colors and a design for my pre-teen great, great nieces and nephews but as soon as I saw your card for today the light bulb went off! What a perfect color combo for that age group and also the most perfect words to go with them. I have saved this color combination – I’m thinking I’ll use this one a lot! You are the best! Happy Valentine’s Day!
