From Our House to Yours

I am so honored to have been a design team member of the Global Design Project since the online challenge launched in 2015, and I’ve participated in all of the 221 challenges since then. It’s been great fun for me, and I’ve made some amazing friends from all over the world as a result. I adore each and every one of the design team members and love the group we’ve formed. As I try to prioritize my workload a bit for the upcoming year, I have to make some hard decisions. As such, today’s project will be my last challenge with the Global Design Project as a design team member – and it’s a two-week challenge.

With this week’s color challenge (Early Espresso, Shaded Spruce and Cherry Cobbler), I set out to make a sophisticated floral card that pulled all three of these gorgeous colors together in a non-Christmas project. As I worked through the options, though, I kept coming back to a simple project with a rustic appeal. Here’s my 5″ x 3-1/2″ (notecard-sized) card for the 221st Global Design Project challenge:

  • Barn Door & Merry Christmas to All. I reached back to the 2019 Annual Catalog for all of the products I used to make my simple, rustic card. The door and simple wreath are built with the Barn Door stamp set and coordinating Sliding Door Dies. Here’s a look at the Barn Door stamp set:Barn Door, Stampin' Up! 151247While the Sliding Door Dies can be used to build a sliding door (go figure!) I simple cut out this door, cropped the door handle and cut out the image of the wreath with a bow. Such simplicity!
  • Perfect Sentiment. If I wanted to turn my barn door into a Christmas card (and I did), I needed the perfect sentiment for my card – something that gave a nod to home and holidays. Since I couldn’t find any references to barns, this “Season’s Greetings from our home to yours” from the Merry Christmas to All stamp set (also in the 2019 Annual Catalog) gave me a great option. It’s not the star of this stamp set, but it’s certainly one I’ve used a lot. Here’s a look at the Merry Christmas to All stamp set:  Merry Christmas to All, Stampin' Up! 147702 I cropped the sentiment with the Merry Christmas Dies that coordinate with this set. I was excited (in a nerdy way) to see how the top of the cropped die was the exact same length as the barn door die. What kismet!
  • Simple wreath. I adore the simple wreath that’s part of the Barn Door stamp set. I painted on the stamp with Stampin’ Write Markers (Shaded Spruce and Cherry Cobbler), gave the stamp a huff to re-moisten the ink and then stamped it on Thick Whisper White. I didn’t get a “perfect stamp” but it was perfect for my rustic look. Here’s a closer look:Barn Door, Merry Christmas to All, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingThe die that coordinates cropped out the outline of the image and the center circle – easy as can be!

  1. While I understand your need to prioritize your workload, I’ll be sorry to see the end of your tenure as a DT member for the Global Design Project. You have been an inspiration to us with not only your brilliant designs to reflect each challenge, but with your committed consistency too. (You are the only one who has never missed a challenge, I’ll bet.) Thank you for those 221 designs, and for ending with such an approachable, timely project that is pure King. Merry Christmas from our hearts to yours.

  5. Wonderful card today Brian. I am really into the farm look these days so that made today’s card special. Sometimes it’s wicked hard to make decisions to leave a group but I’m glad you are smart enough to realize none of us can do all we want to do. You’ve amazed everyone with all you do and we all admire you for it. So we congratulate you on 221 weeks of amazing cards. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  6. Awesome card! Hugs!

  7. I’m just wondering when you will be opening the ordering for the shares/swatch books (worried that I might miss it when I am gone for a slightly late Christmas with family). Really appreciate all the work you put into making these for us.

    • Hey Mary! I wasn’t able to get it all together to open them this week. They will be open on Thursday after Christmas. ♥ I’ll email you with the information. Thanks!

  8. Hope those product shares will be in the 6″ x 12″ size.
