This is Knot Good

When my friend Sally Nusbaum asked me to be a guest speaker for her 2020 VIP Conference, I was happy to dial in and share my thoughts about using color and to share some business tips. What a fun group and a really fun event. As part of my color discussion, I issued the group a color challenge and received projects from many of the participants. Here’s the color challenge I supplied to the group:

2020 VIP Conference - Color Combination ChallengeI played along with the challenge, too! Here’s my card with this mix of So Saffron, Flirty Flamingo and Cinnamon Cider:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Back on Your Feet. When I purchased the Back on Your Feet stamp set last year, I was excited to showcase the fun giraffe in the set. I wasn’t sure I’d use the turtle or the sloth, but I bought the set anyway. Here’s a look at the Back on Your Feet stamp set: Back on Your Feet, Stampin' Up! 149385Adorable, right?! I was wrong about my intentions with this set – I used both the sloth and the turtle (twice) before I used the giraffe (and loved working with them). ♥ Here are the other projects I’ve shared with this set (you can click on the photos to see the original project for each): Back on Your Feet, Garden Lane, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, Get Well Soon card Back on Your Feet, Stampin' Up!, Brian King Back on Your Feet, See a Silhouette, Stampin Up!, Brian King
  • Using These Colors. While this combination of yellow, pink and brown look great together, I didn’t want to force them to play together. I just let each color play its part. As such, Flirty Flamingo was only incorporated in one element on the card (albeit a very important part of the card – the heart). Here’s a closer look: Back on Your Feet, Stampin Up!, Brian KingThe giraffe is colored with So Saffron Stampin’ Blends and Cinnamon Cider Stampin’ Blends. The small, but important, heart is cropped with the Stitched Be Mine Dies.
  • Layer Measurements. The layers on this card worked well with my tall, tied-up giraffe, but I think it’s a versatile layout that will serve me (and you) well in a variety of projects. Here’s a list of the measurements I used on this card (starting with the base of the card and working my way up to the top):
    • Cinnamon Cider – 4-1/4″ x 11″ (scored at 5-1/2″)
    • 2020-2022 In Color 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (Cinnamon Cider) – 4″ x 5-1/4″
    • Stampin’ Dimensionals
    • Cinnamon Cider – 3-3/8″ x 5-1/8″
    • So Saffron – 3-1/4″ x 5″
    • Stampin’ Dimensionals
    • Cinnamon Cider – 2-5/16″ x 3-3/4″
    • Thick Whisper White – Stitched Rectangles Dies
    • Cinnamon Cider – Layering Circles Dies
    • Whisper White – 1-1/2″ Circle Punch
    • Flirty Flamingo – Stitched Be Mine Dies
